| ![]() I attended my first dog show yesterday in Bel Alton, MD. Watched some of the obedience trials, met a 200 pound Cane Corso with paws nearly as big as my hands, and of course, I saw the Yorkies. While I was waiting for the Yorkies’ ring time, I got to see the standard Poodles strut their stuff. Gemy, I thought of you and your BRTs when the Poodle owners/handlers were putting the final touches on their dogs’ coat, scissoring the locks to perfection. Much to my surprise, I recognized a face in the crowd of people grooming their dogs. It was Tami! I looked in my catalogue to confirm that she was showing Lady Hawk’s Dream a Lil’ Dream, Avery: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-show-gal.html While Tami was readying Avery, a handler put a Poodle on a grooming table and the dog immediately jumped onto a Yorkie’s smaller, rolling grooming station right behind Tami (thank goodness the Yorkie was elsewhere at the time). The Poodle looked like she was going to jump onto Tami’s shoulders or table next. ![]() After the show, I had the pleasure of meeting Tami. She is a lovely lady, she is passionate about her dogs, and I could see that she truly enjoys working with them and showing them. It was such a treat to meet Avery, her gorgeous girl, and Merlin, her pup with the ultimate face: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-i-resist.html Thank you Tami for talking with me. I look forward to seeing you and your fantastic dogs at the specialty this fall. Thank you Elle for the info and the kick to get to a show. ![]() |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | ![]() So tell me what was your experience like? Were you able to follow the judging flow? Did you pick out the winners? How did the movement differ dog to dog? Did you look at the down n back? Can you see yourself in the ring sometime? How about ringside grooming of Yorkies? It's fun to observe isn't it? And Tami is a very nice lady. We met in NYC earlier this year. I was just observing too

I was fascinated with the handling aspects. Watching the Poodles first was great, that way I could focus more on the dogs when it was the Yorkies' turn. I watched the down and back. There must have been something about the judge that the Yorkies really liked because many of them seemed happy to greet him, lol. I can picture myself getting involved in some capacity. For now, I plan on observing and learning because I see how beneficial much of this can be in raising my pets. I want to learn more about handling, agility, and obedience.

YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Beautiful pics. Watching your first show is certainly a thrill. Heck when I saw my first show I knew then and there that is what I wanted to do.

Getting there early, I was able to quietly watch a lot of Yorkie exhibitors doing their grooming and prep. Unfortunately, there weren't any interesting vendors on Saturday. Hoping for better luck next time. I don't know if I'll be able to go next weekend as my doggy sitter might not be available. Thank you again Elle.

Gemy, I thought of you and your BRTs when the Poodle owners/handlers were putting the final touches on their dogs’ coat, scissoring the locks to perfection. That's one of the most nerve wrackng times for me. How much to fluff, what to leave as is. Final paw touch up. Do you need anti slip on paws or not? Unfortunately here in Canada - it seems like the exhibitors now are scissoring the beard. When I first learnt the grooming, it was never touch the beard. But looks and grooming style is ever evolving. Now the red bow in yorkies seems to be de rigour. I heard before that it was orange. Who knows why the color changes, or why we all go with the red now. I'm thinking of doing Razz man next wkend in a different coloured bow ![]() Mayhap I'll start a trend ![]()
