Been around too long and seen too much, to make a blanket statement, that a show breeder is the best breeder...the best breeders I know personally, DO show and win, but seen and heard stuff I wish I could erase from my mind in the name of breeding show dogs...

I"m not always met with a smile here or in person LOL...so, as I've always said...I am who I am, won't change into something someone wants me to be to their spects. If you like me, you like me, if you don't, you don't.
I do an occassional breeding, show more than breed and like some show breeders, some I don't...

I, too, have loved reading this thread. Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us. My girls were all pets and I have no personal interest in showing my dogs, yet I have learned so much here and find it so fascinating. I have viewed the show world from afar but you have taught me so much on Yorkie Talk, and I greatly appreciate the time you spend to educate here. I absolutely love the passion from breeders who obviously love their pups and are truly committed to the betterment of this special breed. Steve is a kind and caring man who makes me laugh. He also has passion for dogs and there is a lot of wisdom also in what he writes. I think we share the same goals about our pups.

Thanks for the welcome. I must admit thought i have been on YT a while just under my old user name. I finally changed my name now that i have decided on my kennel name Ivy League Yorkies for when i eventually breed. We do have a few in colorado. The Messersmiths are actually like my adopted parents and my breeders/mentors. It was fate that we met i think. They are an amazing couple who truly care for our breed and are doing some great things and educating people as much as they can about the health of our breed. She is producing some fantastic dogs as well of which i am so blessed with 2. I am so jealous of the prizes she won at Bluebonnet if i can get the time off from teaching we will both be there next year. Now that i am finally done with college and have a real job i can start to attend a lot more shows and get more serious with showing. We are definitely going to San Antonio this summer! Whoo Hoo I cant wait!!!

The Messersmiths are a lovely couple. The took time out to send a letter to Bluebonnet, complimenting the club on the beautiful trophies.

They are a wonderful couple! They showed at Bluebonnet some beautiful yorkies! They were so nice and I'm glad I got to meet them. Now, will be good to see you in San Antonio in July for the Roving! I'm excited that it will be in Texas next year and then the following year in OKC.
What was your other screen name here so maybe I will recognize it. I hardly can remember anything lol

Do some research. Any breeder who has been around for awhile will tell you to start with an excellent shoulder.

Mardelin, I really wish you were contented to just comment on the things you know and leave the rest alone.

Just a hint to the rest of you who are trying to learn about structure. DON'T GO TO YORKIE PEOPLE. You can learn a lot about how to grow coat and color it with expertise, but you won't learn about structure. The expertise just isn't there. Especially when you want to establish good structure in your line (breeding basics). But if you learn nothing else, learn what a correct shoulder looks like, feels like and how it behaves when the dog is in motion.

Great thread Donna. Makes me think about how Marge and I would proceeed if she ever wanted to get into Showing after retiring. She will need some sort of venture to keep her occupied and busy, otherwise she devotes too much attention to me. I guess we would have to move to Ca or TX for a mentor.

With that said, I know correct shoulder placement, the right angluation and what puts a good dog in motion. But I hope this thread stays postive and please don't let one ruin what it's meant to be
