| Hello fellow yorkie lovers.... I am a new member and thrilled to see so many yorkie lovers in one place ! I've owned and raised yorkies over the past 35 years and have always worn red bows in their hair..... I found a lady online who hand crafts an incredibly extensive line of specialty bows, however there is usually a long wait .... you really have to visit the website to appreciate these bows !!!!! Dog Bows and Dog Show Bows by Doggie Bow Ties just thought I'd share.....and at the same time, say a big hello from canada !! |

Old way - you just do not do the teasing and puff out the hair for the topknot. The old way is a simple pull up and band. The bow is simple - not startched or studed. Just fold the ribbon over to make a bow and band it. Done. New way - gotta have the puff. Now I do nto do a big puff - I just do not like that. I try to compliment the head, so it depends on the dog as to how to have it. Same for the color of bow and where to place the top of the spout at. Of course on any dog over a year gets the top hairs coming up in the spout folded over, band, and then the bow goes on. Bows on the new way cost around 10.00 each and are starched, doubled bow, and studed in the center.

| I was at the Jonesboro shows yesterday and wondered about the red bows. Someone was telling me that the Shih Tzu's all have different colors, but it's always red with yorkies, now I know why. I could swear I saw at least one yorkie being shown with the simpler topnot, not the poof. I could be wrong, but I though it was darling and it stuck in my mind.

I posted the link to share examples of them being shown in bows that are not red. I have seen various people use other colors over the years. Never yellow Gemy, but there's a first for everything.

Fountain for puppies - under one year and fold the extra hair coming out at the the topknot for ones over a year. Sometimes our dogs do not cooperate when we are putting up their topknot at a show and the topknot can look pretty simple - this has happened to me. I was just glad I got it up, certained, and he left the bow in. LOL
