Structure is how the dog is put together..... You're going to have to have someone show you the different components of a well put together yorkie....layback, angulation, ear set, eyes, angulation, undercarriage.....spring of rib,....once you learn that, you'll understand how all the components go into have a great moving dog, bred for what it was bred for.

I'm sure you understand that health, structure and temperament are most important when you are breeding.

I never used to understand why people got so upset at breeding of 'teacups' (I understood health reason but not why people was upset) or black and tan or rare colours, but now I feel like I is becoming nun and 'marrying' the breed. I don't want anyone spoiling the breed! It amazing how protective I've become. My family think it a bit silly but it like I protecting my own child.

Lol, your post struck a cord with me. I love that! All of a sudden I fell hard for the yorkie, and think it's one of the most beautiful dogs in the world. I've gotten a lot of shelter dogs in the past, and every dog is beautiful in it's own way, but there is something about a yorkie that is just amazing to me, and I too feel like I've married the breed. If I were just 20 years younger . . .

Hehe! That exactly how I feel! It like I just fell so deeply in love and I know that I'm in this for life now.

This is a nice thread. I'm glad you've found your way. Will you skip junior handling or take advantage of it?

Do you have the same breed standard as Australia or America? They have little differences.

Standard is written same except for thing like tail dock because that illegal here. They even write 'not to exceed seven pound' then in brackets they say 3.2kg.

So true. At my last show - the judge preferred them lighter. I even had someone actually tell me. You learn what judges like what when you go to the shows. We needed the practice (only 2nd time in ring as an adult) so I was glad we went and we kept the major holding.

When you see a yorkie move - this is where you can tell a lot of how the dog is put together too. Many can stack a dog and make them look better.

Coat - one can cover up a lot with a nice coat. Just be sure, as you are learning, to touch the body of a dog to feel how they are put together too. Without a solid stucture you do not have a great dog.

Disney just wanted to say congrats again.

I showed in Junior Handling when I was of age (<18). I don't know about Australia, but it is very competitive here and alot of fun! And it's quite a thrill to win "Best Junior Handler".

I do miss it.

Did you find a mentor yet? How is the reading going? Its nice to see someone that is sooo passionate about the breed and the standard.
