My announcement 2.0 Hello! Since last thread got off topic, I thought I start new one about getting mentor! I is so excited on this venture. A Book I ordered on the Yorkshire standard came today and I has been studying very hard. The part I find I need to keep read and look at pictures is the coat. Understanding how the steel should be is hardest for me. Thanks you to all the wonderful exhibitors/well wishers who have made me feel like I can truly make a difference and improve standard! :) |

Don't feel bad. Coat color is the most difficult to understand and is subject to interpretation. You can have 5 long time exhibitors in a room discusing color and they'll all give you a different answer. Even judges interpret it differently..... Good luck.....study hard and never stop learning. |
Thanks you! The steel is so gorgeous...When I *see* it on a Champion Yorkie, I just know what it supposed to look like but describing is whole another story. |
Congratulations, how exciting for you. From what I've read the Yorkshire terrier coat is one the most difficult to obtain. There is a mixture of genes that contribute to give the blue, which is actually a dark steel color not black. Dilute genes make it look like it has a metallic sheen because of the way the light reflects. It's one of the most unique coats in the dog world, and a real challenge for breeders. Which book are you reading? |

Disney, the coat color and coat is always described as of prime importance. And yes it is.....but if remember the structure and health is more important. There is a saying; "you don't throw out a perfect cake if the icing is a bit off" |

That is very very true, of course health come first. Right now I is trying to understand the standard as best I can though. It amazing, the more I read and learn the more I fall in love with the steel and tan. Last year I would have said chocolate, black and tan, light silver, tri colour yorkies equally as beautiful but now I just in awe of the standard yorkshire terrier, and understand why this IS the standard if that make sense. |

Yes I know but I keep referring to as tan because that what my mentor refers to as. We had wonderful phone conversation last night over Skype, this is all so new but I loving every minute of it! I never used to understand why people got so upset at breeding of 'teacups' (I understood health reason but not why people was upset) or black and tan or rare colours, but now I feel like I is becoming nun and 'marrying' the breed. I don't want anyone spoiling the breed! It amazing how protective I've become. My family think it a bit silly but it like I protecting my own child. |

Structure, health, and disposition/attitude, as you always say -- "not afraid of the devil." |

What do you mean by structure? Health and temperament most important I understand this. |
