Did you read the book "Still Alice". That book will stay with me forever. I think Alzheimer's has got to be one of the worst diseases. I take care of a 95 y/o woman with Alzheimers and it has been so hard seeing her disintegrate. I have known her for 15 years, since she was a young lass of 80, and when I first met her I found her to be the most amazingly intelligent and quick thinking person. Now I have to dress and feed her and make sure she doesn't get into "trouble" because she still has a little bit of the sparkle left in her eye. It really is painful - one of the reasons I have been enjoying this thread so much - I needed a giggle.

Yes I think I undersand. It is a devastating disease. My father used to get this very lost and scared look in his face at times, this was in the early stages. He knew things were wrong, and couldn't verbalize his fears. Luckily he did not go through a lot of personality changes as the disease progressed.
My Mom couldn't really understand what was going on with Dad.

My Mom couldn't really understand what was going on with Dad.

My mom passed away just one month shy of her 80th Birthday. But through her sixties and most of her seventies could run circles around us girls. A bundle of energy. She was in the early stages, but we could definately see the personality changes. And of course you'd see her get this lost look in her eyes and then stiffen her spine and begin walking really riggidly as attempting to shake it off. She didn't die of the disease, she died of a broken heart. As my stepfather passed away earlier in that same year.

No I haven't read it. Wylie's Mom linked me a pictorial, of a photographer's journey with his father and the disease. I can't find the link now, but it was so moving. This is a horrible disease, every part has it's own challenges with the beginnings of the illness often the most difficult, because the patient can't quite grasp what's happening, but is lucid enough to know that something is very wrong.

I sure took the fun out of this thread.
