Friday, August 21, 2009, Yorkie specialty 1 28 YORKSH TERR 12-14- 2-0 28 is the total number on yorkies entered 12 is the number of male yorkies entered 14 is the number of female yorkies entered 2 is the number of male specials (champions) entered 0 is the number of female specials entered For the shows that have a sweepstakes. A sweepstakes is a competition just for puppies that are 6 months to 12 months old. The male yorkies are show first and they are divided into different classes. The winner of each class goes back in the ring after all male classes are judged and the 'winners dog' is selected. The winners dog is the only male that gets points that day toward their championship and that is based on how may other male dogs he beats. After the winners dog is selected then the judge will select the reserve winners dog. If for some reason the winners dog is later disqualified then the reserve winners dog will get the points. Then all the females entries are judged and a 'winners bitch' is chosen following the same guidelines as how the males were judged. After winners dog and winners bitch are chosen then they go back in the ring along with any specials (champions) that are entered and the judge will select Best of Breed, Best of Winners and Best of Opposite Sex. | |

A total of 15 points is necessary to obtain Championship, with 2 Major Wins by different judges. Major Wins are based on the number of dogs of a specific breed in the competition and differ from Region to Region. Texas/Oklahoma/New Mexico/Arizona being in Division 7 and one of the highest point systems in the country to Champion a Yorkie. Let alone, some of the top competition.

| Thanks for explaining that to me. I also didn't know that AKC.org had that on their website. I'm gonna look that up some more.

| I think it really helps a lot if a person has a good understanding of how the dogs are judged before going to a dog show. I take going to dog shows as a serious learning experience. I like to study each dog as it moves and study how the handler handles their dog. So many spectators just go to shows and talk the whole time and don't really study the dogs. Of course the judge has the best advantage because they can really go over each dog. Many times the dog you think should win will not because the judge might have different preferences or the judge might see a fault that a spectator cannot. There is so much more to a yorkie than a beautiful coat. Underneath that coat the judge will be feeling of the dogs actual structure. Often when a dog is stacked they may look perfect but when they move it is sometime hard to hide certain faults. Of course at a specialty there will so many beautiful deserving yorkies that it is often hard to say who should win. I am really looking forward to going to both shows on Friday and I hope I can go Saturday as well. |

While Championing a dog and understanding how the Championship is obtained. One would do better if they familiarized themselves with the Rules and Regulations.

| I spoke to Trish early this week and she told me that she was going to meet up with you. You will love Trish, I don't know anyone that doesn't.....she has such a wonderful way with yorkies. Did she ask you to have Zoe prepared to travel....or did you get that far into the conversation.
