| Double handling I was watching some other breed ring today and learned something new I didn’t know before… I had no idea that I’m seating next to the judge for this particular breed and she kindly explained to me what was that all about... Any how! Double handling is NOT legal! American Kennel Club - AKC Glossary Please do NOT even think about doing that! |

*** I'm still confused myself what that is, (she just pointed to me where to look, so I did) but this is the only description I was found. | |

| double handling is when you have the handler in the ring with the dog and then you have someone outside the ring either getting the dog's attention or telling the handler in the ring what to do to show the dog better or giving instructions. That is against AKC rules. I hope I explained it somewhat better Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |

| If you want to see double handling in action, watch the german shephard rings and/or certain handlers in the group. When I watch herding group at a big show I spend more time watching the 1-2 handlers assistants walking aroung the ring with their "secret" chain jingling than I do watching the dogs. It is never allowed but it is a tradition in that breed so it still goes on. The dogs learn to equate the noise with food and with their excellent hearing they can hear a fairly quiet noise like keys or choke chains and for some dogs it really affects their expression. It actually is kind of cool to observe but we'd all be in trouble if it was legal-- we'd lose our hearing I think... |
