If you want to see double handling in action, watch the german shephard rings and/or certain handlers in the group. When I watch herding group at a big show I spend more time watching the 1-2 handlers assistants walking aroung the ring with their "secret" chain jingling than I do watching the dogs. It is never allowed but it is a tradition in that breed so it still goes on. The dogs learn to equate the noise with food and with their excellent hearing they can hear a fairly quiet noise like keys or choke chains and for some dogs it really affects their expression. It actually is kind of cool to observe but we'd all be in trouble if it was legal-- we'd lose our hearing I think... |
