I think they know this, but can't always be sure of the yorkie's temperment that they are placing. Also, they have no way of knowing what the children are like and if they know how to treat a little dog.

Keep in mind. They get the unwanted yorkies of the world. These dogs have been discarded like yesterday's trash. Yet they open their homes to these little ones no questions asked. Just recently, several have been turned over to rescue because of the children in the house...or because a baby is on the way. I know, you know, and the rescue knows that every parent won't do that. But, they see the worst of people everyday. These yorkies have often been raised in less than ideal circumstances and have been through who knows what. That being said, they can make wonderful pets, but care has to be taken. The goal of the rescue is to find homes where these pets are LEAST likely to be turned away...or to put it another way MOST likely to live forever. So over time they've developed some rules, and, unfortunately, it is a process to adopt a dog.

The rescue is 100% volunteer operated. Everyone has an actual fulltime job and does this with the rest of their time. Their goal is to place each and every dog in a home where they will stay forever. When the call comes in, sometimes the rescue has to move immediately to get a dog before it is put to sleep, dropped off in the country, or taken out back to be done away with.

Blu with Judy Large Web view.jpgThe little guy I picked up last week was at the vets office to be put to sleep for FLEA DERMATITIS. This was his first vet appointment in THREE YEARS. The parents never treated for fleas, and he had chewed off all of his hair from the middle of his back down. He was swollen and infected. Blue the cutie 8 2 07 Large Web view.jpgThank god the vet called Save A Yorkie and we were able to save him. Who knows what else this little guy has been through. (although he sure seemed like a real sweetheart). We want to give him the best chance we can. What if we placed him in a home with a small child and found out (OOPS, he doesnt like small children). Then we're moving him out of another home and starting over. We certainly can't test him out on peoples kids before hand.

It sucks, I agree, cause there are lots of homes out there with children that would make great homes. Chances are a lot of the rescue pups would be great with kids...but it's a decision the rescue has made to protect everybody.

I would love to do fostering, however with having a child in my home, I know it's thanks, but no thanks.

EXCUSE ME BUT MY CHILDREN KNOW WHAT THEY CAN AND CANNOT DO AROUND MY YORKIES AND THEY COULD TAKE BETTER CARE OF THEM THEN MOST ADULTS!!! THEN ON TOP OF ALL THAT THE B$#@H DEMANDED I GET MOJO FIXED (I DIDNT THINK SHE GOT TO MAKE THIS DECISION?!?!? PLUS HES JUST GETTING INTO SHOWING!!) forgotten Yorkies in the world. I hope you get many foster homes.
I wish I could help out but I am still working full time which is why
I couldn't get a rescue Yorkie at the time I was looking.
I hope to volunteer myself with the ASPCA when I retire in a couple

Hello I aslo volunteer for Save A Yorkie Rescue and am offended with your language and your abuse to the rescue. The reason that she or anyone in rescue will tell you to fix your pups is to reduce the amount of unwanted pups that are out there. Which is why so many pups end up in shelters and with us in rescue. And there are also so many health benefits with spaying and neutering your pup. You should discourage people from getting involved with the rescue if we are all trying to do the same thing and people should call us and talk to us to see if are as bad as you say we are. Before I joined Save A Yorkie I had a bad experience with a different rescue who is mentioned alot on this site and they refused me right away because of my age that is screwed up not us. We take the time of our busy days to take in the yorkies that no one wants because their kids don't like the dog anymore, they are pregnant and they don't know how to train their pup right to handle a yorkie so they throw them out. So if you were offended because you wanted to adopt another yorkie and you didn't spay and neuter your own it's just ALL rescue rules. You will not find a rescue out there that will let their pups be adopted to unfixed pups. It's just rescue reality

Judy, you ARE doing a great job. I'm proud of you for being a foster Yorkie parent and working with the rescue. That poor boy that you posted pic's of is now is rescue and will get the great forever home that he deserves.

I will admit some rescue people come off as being snobby and condescending. Their intentions are sincere but their delivery can be absolutely rude and uncalled for. I used to volunteer for a cat rescue, but after asking for help with a feral cat situation and being totally talked down too I no longer associated with them. It's just like every day life, if you have a bad experience with something YOU have the decision to support them anymore or not.

I'd absolutely love to help out, but I'm a 21 year old married college student and most people think I shouldn't even have Marty & Maddie, so I doubt a rescue would approve my husband and me to be foster parents. Maybe one of these days...

By the way, what you are doing is great! These poor babies deserve good homes.
