A Yorkie rescued from a rescue?!?
 

Trish and I have a new challenge ... her name is Lily. This is so heartbreaking as she came from an animal rescue!! It's hard to believe they considered it a rescue ... Lily has been there since January!! She has been so starved that all the fat is gone from her little body and the muscle was beginning to go. She was so emaciated and weak that her little legs shook when she walked and she could hardly squat to pee!!! She has kennel cough and although we were told that she is 9 months old, we think she is maybe 3-4 years old. She has gnawed on one of her feet until it's a big sore and although we've had her nails trimmed, they look like claws. Her teeth are really dirty ... she was never seen by a vet [they do their own diagnosing and medicating, even tooth extraction!] and you have to pay their fee in cash and get no receipt. But, you know what?? Right now, none of what they did or didn't do really matters. The thing that matters is that she's been rescued from them and will soon, hopefully, be on the road to recovery. Trish is taking her to our vet and I pray that there is nothing more serious wrong with her and she will soon be the beautiful little girl that we see when we look at her. Poor baby doesn't even have a clue what a toy is but Trish's little pack will have her playing and socialized pretty quick. :p Just wanted to give you all a peek at this little sweetheart "before" and hopefully very soon, show you the little Princess inside all that sadness, "after". Please pray that We will find a way to keep helping these babies .... one Yorkie at the time!!

What a heartbreaking story...That's not fair that animal rescues like that are around. I watched one of those animal cops shows the other day where they had to rescue dogs from a rescue group, and it just made me sick.

This little girl is so beautiful, poor thing must have been so scared in that place. I'm glad she's in a safe haven now, and that you and Trish are taking care of her. It looks like as soon as she's all better, she will make a wonderful baby girl for someone. Thanks for what you're doing!!

Thank you all so much! I hate that I'm not in Colorado and will have to help "long distance". But, we knew that this would happen and there's things that I can do .... but .... Trish gets all the "snuggling"!! :p Just kidding ... she has more knowledge about Yorkies in her little finger than I will have in a lifetime ... but I do love being a "helper"! ;)

You will see this little rose bud blossom with all your loving care. She sure is a very pretty little girl.

Thanks so much! She is a little beauty ... but her sad little eyes break my heart. I was shocked ... I thought "rescue" was a safe place for them! I suppose I live a sheltered life but I thought that programs who received tax exempt status had to live up to a certain standard. I was appalled that they aren't monitored! Am I the only one "living under a rock"??

Thank you so much ... Trish will have her healthy and happy in no time and ready for a forever home! All shelters/rescues aren't bad, but I have found that there are some pretty rotton ones who just want the money and don't use it for the health of the little ones. Those are the ones that should be shut down!

My goodness, I must be living under a rock also...had no idea things like this happened, it gives rescues a bad name...Thank God you were able to get her to a really safe place, and I hope she'll be in a new home, a forever home, very soon. She really is a cutie, but so very, very sad looking. This truly breaks my heart...

She is going to be a little beauty you see it already. Poor little one to be treated so poorly in a rescue of all places. People like that should not be allowed to care for dogs if you can call that care.

You and Trish are angels for taking this little one in and caring for her like she should be cared for. God Bless you both.

Oh, that makes my heart hurt to look at her. Poor little rosebud. Was she in an official rescue situation? Thank goodness she is in good hands and in a short time will gain weight and feel healthy.

Would you post a brief synopsis of you and Trish for the newbies reading your threads?

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I now have my fourth rescue and I wouldn't have it any other way. It is so awesome to watch them recover and come out of their shells. You will be so amazed after just one month, trust me.

I sometimes feel guilty that I pay a little more attention to Harry than I do the girls, but he's still so needy. It's okay to spoil them a little more at first.

She's beautiful and I'm sure that after a couple of weeks of steady feeding and constant love, she'll be good as new. Can't wait to see the after pics.

Elaine ... we were told [in confidence] where she came from but I assure you, I would love to plaster the name all over the place! People are working on it, but for now they have quite the little operation going on. When the day finally comes, and it will, we will be shouting their name from the rooftop!! :)

xxmxaxrxyxx & YorkieShadow ... some people probably don't understand, but we feel like we are the lucky ones! You look into those little eyes and think, nothing deserves what you have been through! Even if there's nothing at all that can be done to lengthen their sad little lives, we can make their time left the best they have ever had!

Janie616 ... if our TLC could magically be turned into funds, we could take care of every needy little Yorkie in the world!!! :sidesplt: You asked ... Does she eat well?!? ... Trish has to be very careful in the quantity and just give her small bits at the time. She inhales every morsel she can get her little lips on!! She was so starved and we don't want to make her sick. Trish said she will be playing and if she happens to run past the bowl of kibble, she stops and grabs a mouthful, gobbles it up and keeps playing! She is already showing signs of response to just good food and TLC!!! How could anyone have been so cruel ... unless there are some medical issues, all this little girl needed was food and attention!!! :(

ChestersMom ... thank you! You know how amazing it is to see this happen! When Trish was with another rescue, I was able to observe the little ones that she fostered. They would come to her just terrified and cowering! Lots of them were sick and God only knows what abuse they had endured ... some we knew their background, most we had to try and piece it together based on their actions. All it takes is medical care if they need it, good food, lots of patience and tons of TLC! ALL of this is so easy! Sorry, I forgot for a moment, you have been there and understand ... I find myself preaching to the choir!! :rolleyes: God bless you and go ahead ... spoil little Harry ... he deserves it!! ;)

autumn star ... thank you! I think Lily will be a great pet when she is ready to go to her forever home. After the sad little life she has had, she deserves to be pampered, loved and spoiled! :)

It made me cry the first time I saw Lily! She has the saddest little eyes ... they just seem to be begging someone to help her. Sadly, yes, she was in an official rescue [not Yorkie specific, but all-breed]. Trish was contacted by a lady who knew that Lily was there and wanted to get her out if we would take her. She got her after paying $150 cash [no receipt] and very little paperwork. She had been there since January, had not been vet checked, spayed, no shots, etc. and they indicated that she is 9 months old! Trish says that she has to be 3-4 years judging from her teeth and she is just bones with skin holding them together!! She constantly gnawed at her foot which they attributed to stress! :mad: After getting her, she was given a quick check by a vet before Trish got her. She has an appointment this AM with our vet at which point she will be checked for everything under the sun and we will know if we are facing any health problems ... I pray he finds nothing but simple neglect ... we shall see! ;)

Trish and I met almost three years ago when she was fostering a little rescue that my hubby and I were interested in adopting. We had been thinking for a long time that we might like to add a second Yorkie to our family. Long story short ... we became best friend/sisters and I have been able to love all the little ones that have been fostered at her house! Hubby and I work in the gas/oil industry and travel all the time. It was unusual to be in Grand Junction for this length of time but I now know that God had it planned! :p Our projects are usually under a year in one place. Even knowing that our time there was getting short, Trish and I wanted to go ahead with our idea of having our own rescue and we did. Shortly after that decision, our time there ended and we are back at our home in Alabama and will soon be going to a new project. Even though I am not physically in Colorado, I can still do my part ... aren't electronics, the internet, airplanes, etc. wonderful?!? :) Anyway ... since we began [the first week of April] our little rescue has already had one successful story ... in another thread is the story of "Bear" and his wonderful forever home. Just last week came poor little Lily. We still don't have everything in place, but our website is in the works and in the meantime the babies are already coming in!! :rolleyes: We are so thankful that although the details are slow in completing, the little ones are already being cared for and loved. We know it won't be easy but we will always find a way to help as long as a little Yorkie is in need ... I believe this will unfortunately be a lifetime project!!

Carole, I would love to, but we were told of Lily's origin in confidence. It's my understanding that they are under scrutiny and hopefully will be dealt with soon. I would love to shout their stinking names from the rooftop but can't betray that confidence ... we have heard that there are a few more Yorkies in there. If they are there, Trish and I will find a way to get them out!

You're right ... the only thing that matters now is that Lily is safe and hopefully healthy! I will update when Trish gets home from our vet's.

So how did the vet appointment go, I'm hoping it went well and that Lily's merely undernourished and scared...I know that paw will need some attention. But otherwise, I hope some good food and good spoiling (love) is all she'll need...

Thank you to everyone for caring about Lily! All went well with the vet. She's gained weight! He thinks the sore on her foot is from and old injury that was never treated. She's only a little over a year old. She had her heartworm test and it was negative. Up to date on her shots now. She can't be spayed until she gains more weight, though. Of course we're not giving her that phenobarb any more. If we see a seizure, we'll deal with that. But haven't seen anything that's close to being a seizure since I've taken her off the stuff. The long term prognosis is good. What she needs now is food, rest and love. She will be ready in a month or so to go to a wonderful, forever home where she will be safe and happy for the rest of her life!

Again....... thank you all you wonderful people for caring!!!

Fabulous news!!! And I'm so glad to hear it, keep us all updated on her progress...I think she's a little diamond in the rough...what a precious jewel!!!
