| Maltese Needing a new Home Florida I'm trying to help out my son who has a Maltese about 6 years old that he needs to re home. He lives on the island of Matlacha which is just west of Cape Coral, Fl. Gus is about 6 years old. He belonged to my son's wife but they divorced and she left the dog with him. He's working MUCH more now in order to make ends meet and Gus isn't getting the time or attention he needs. He's a matted mess most of the time and he isn't housebroken. It's become a huge problem. He has another dog, a Chihuahua that does much better on his own but the two together is just too much. Now, the rented house he lives in has been sold and he has to find a new place to live. Problem enough with one dog, but Gus makes it double the problem. To be honest, in addition to the housebroken issue, Gus is not a nice dog to be around. He snaps and growls and otherwise causes people to NOT want to love on him. If anyone knows someone who will give him a good home and take care of him and help him with his behavior issues I would love to hear from them! Thank you! Donna Petty 386-668-9562

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Have you tried contacting local Maltese rescues yet? With his behavior issues, I'm very worried that this poor precious kiddo is going to be passed from home to home until he ends up at the pound. PLEASE be careful with him....to me, it sounds like a quick solution is wanted and that may not be in the best interest of this poor dog.

| He IS in need of a quick fix. That's why I posted on here in the hopes of getting word out to as many people as possible. We're concerned for him too and just hope to find a good home for him. Thank you for your concern as well.

| Thank you! I've been in touch with both of those organizations. I'm in the process of checking one of them out. The other can't help-no foster homes available.

| Hopefully the right person will come along and adopt you sons pup. I am sure my older dog would not be desirable to adopt to most people, but I ended up being the perfect fit for him and his personality flaws. Hopefully this little pup will have the same luck!! How sad and irresponsible that his owner deserted him when she divorced your son....especially since your son isn't able to keep him and he has behavioral problems. It doesn't sound like this pup wouldnt last long if it were turned into a shelter due to the fact that he's aggressive and unfriendly so finding him a rescue is probably his only hope, if you can't find someone who will adopt him. Is he even a one person dog?? Or does he just bite everyone he comes in contact with?? If he at least, would bond with one person, he might be the perfect companion for an older, retired, lady who could give him the attention he needs and Florida has lots of retirees that escape down there to the warm weather!! Good luck~~ |

| I think I did Gus a disservice in my description of his behavioral issues. Gus doesn't bite everyone he comes into contact with. Rather, he'll allow you to pet him, rub his back with your bare foot, cuddle with you and then all of a sudden, when he's had enough, you'll go to touch him and he'll snap at you. I think he's only broken skin once and that was actually his mom! The end result is that you'll greet him, rub his back for a minute and then leave him alone. I think Gus would do wonderfully in a retiree's home with someone who's home most of the day to attend to his potty training. He needs to be neutered which would help with his aggresiveness I think. Hope this paints a more accurate picture of him!

| Neutering would probably help his issues a lot, especially potty training. He sounds like my cat as far as the petting thing. I know with her, she gets overstimulated. I wonder if the same thing is possible with Guss as well. |

| Foster Home / Perm Home For Gus Hi I am interested in Gus - I have experience with dogs with behavior problems and I have a good support network of friends who train dogs, vets who practice TCM, and my dogs and I frequent the Chi Institute which is about 15 minutes away from me - Please private message me if you would like to chat - I live in-between Ocala and Gainesville - Thanks |
