Is there any way that your Vet will allow you to remain with Matty until he is sedated? And then, be there when he is in recovery? Mine has allowed me to remain, knowing the risk of what fear can do to an animal. I would think the Vet would make an exception in Matty's case, since he is not what we would consider a domesticated dog. You know, I believe they do understand what we say. My Sydney is almost 15, and she was diagnosed with CRF in Oct.-we opted to go forward with her dental, as I believed, (and rightly so) that my girl still has plenty of time left, and the morning of her dental, I had a talk with her, and I explained to her that she mustn't think of staying asleep. And that we would go camping as soon as she was awake. Well, DH & I picked her up, shortly after she awoke, and took her immediately to our local State Park, where DH had taken our travel trailer up in the morning, and you know, she remembered we were going camping. I carried her from the car, to our travel trailer, and she lifted her little head from my chest, looked around and then straight into my eyes, as if she was saying, "You promised & we're camping!" Please ask your Vet. The worst he can say is "No". We have mass in the morning and we will offer Matty up. Sheila |
My vet always lets me stay with him prior to anesthesia....poor Matty has to be anesthetized to be shaved down. He totally freaks out over grooming. This is a specialist hospital and I really should have asked the surgeon. I asked the tech if I could just bring him home same day and she said they don't like to do that. I could kick myself for not talking to the surgeon about options. I will leave a message in the morning asking for him to call me. Normally he does not call the day of surgery....another vet does the calling...and I don't see him until the follow up appointment. He may totally understand and let me bring him home. If not, I will just have to live with it and pray that Matty will be so doped up he won't know. I will be there the next day for sure. I could not stay in the morning anyway.....it is 45 minutes from my home and I have to get home to feed my other pups. We will be leaving early as Matty has to be there at 7:00AM Thank you for the prayers. :) |

It's a 24/7 job, and I loved every single baby that came into my care, but I must admit my favorite were the fawns. They're like puppy's. I'd like to think that if hunters only knew, that wildlife love humans, and have peronalities, they'd change their minds. My babies needed and demanded to be kissed & cuddled before being fed. The hardest part is letting go...but I believe what is born in the wild must be returned to the wild. Sheila |

Well, we'll just pray all the harder for Matty to be ok. Talk to him, and I believe he will understnad you-tell him how much you need him. Our morning mass begins at 8, and I will be in the Sacristy by 7:10 setting up, so I will put him before the Lord. |

Thank you so much for your kindness. Matty is a special boy. |

My last one, was less than 3 days old, abandoned by his mother during an electrical storm because he could not walk, and follow her. Sadly, it is still survival of the fittest. The good news is that we were able to foster him, and return a healthy fawn to the wild, and he was adopted by another doe and her fawn. |
Great News for Gabby! Matty will be in my prayers.... |
Well, not losing the eye is a good thing, but it's too bad she can't see out of it. Sending my prayers that only good things happen to Gabby. |
Just catching up with Gaby. I had lost this thread a while ago. I'm glad to read that things are promising for our little miracle. I hope things continue to do well. |
Matty did well today. They gave me the option of bringing him home, but encouraged me to leave him. They said he only growled a couple of times and seems relaxed; so, I am leaving him. I will be picking him up tomorrow at 11 AM. I am SO relieved it is over. Thank you to all of you for your kind words and prayers! :) |

Good deal. Will be good for him to spend a night, and will give you a little break. Matty will be home tomorrow! Glad it went well. |
