So many times pet owners who adopt will hate to have to admit after the fact that it wasn't the right fit after all and wait until all are miserable and then surrender back to a rescue. Hat's off to you...;) |
Update Well the couple that was interested in Mindy came over on Tuesday. I do not feel it was a good match. They were nice enough but The man kept pushing himself on Mindy. The woman was 66 and I am not sure how old the man was. But i decided against them. I have a lady coming this evening who is single (divorced) age 52 and works for Boeing for 30 years. Very nice lady. So we shall see how this visit goes. I have turned down about 3 or 4 other possible homes. So hoping this one coming today will be the right home for her. Will update again tomorrow.. Have a great day.... |

Update, hopefully final one;) I am placing Mindy with a wonderful woman who is divorced, lives alone and is 52. She is not retired, and is just a great match for Mindy. Mindy liked her and she loved Mindy. Mindy is going to be very well loved I truly feel it this time. I did not charge her any adoption fee since all her vetting had already been paid. Instead she will be donating to a yorkie rescue. Thanks everyone.. Mindy went home to her last night, so I will be excited and anxious for an update later one this evening. The woman works swing shift at Boeing so she is basically on my schedule..hehe :D |
Congratulations! I am so happy for you and for little Mindy! You spent a lot of time worrying about finding the right home for her. :) That was very nice of you and Mindy's new mom to think of rescue. :) I will also look forward to updates! |
That's GREAT news and good for you - her and Mindy !! |
Yeah!! Thanks:) I am feeling pretty happy right now myself. If 2 ever needed each other it is these 2. This lady has been through hell and back because of her controlling ex.. Poor woman lost 75% of her hair during the divorce and in the end he refused to let her have any of the 3 cats they owned (he wouldn't allow her to have a dog).. I actually met with 3 different prospects with others interested. I felt 3 was enough, especially after I met This lady.. Have a great day!!!;) |
I am so happy to hear the news! YAYAYAY for Mindy and you !!! Glad it all has worked out :D |
That is great news Karla. You can tell her about the meetup group if you like . Let us know how she does . Steve |
Oh such good news. Is this her first dog then? How great they clicked with each other on first meeting!. Let us know how she does ... So great that you take the time and care so deeply. |
I've been following this story and felt so bad for both of you. I know you were trying your best to find the perfect home for your girl. Congratulations now that you did. Finger's crossed it's a match made in heaven. |

Yeah she met her here first so she could see how she is in this environment, then I checked all her references (vet from when she had cats), then I drove Mindy up to her home for a visit, she stayed there of course. And I am anxiously waiting for an update now..LOL... |

If that were to happen I would probably try a behaviorist of some kind to help her with her bully issues;) I honestly believe she loved me, but just really hated living here with the other dogs. |

Mom came home with hospice and then rallied back. Soon after, Mcduff passed away and then mom became very ill again and now resides in a nursing home and dad is 83 and ill. The match was perfect though and you would not have known they had taken that dog at eight years old. It was as if they had him forever. He stayed with mom as she needed him and she was there with him when he needed her. I know this is off subject, but I know some rescues have programs for seniors where they will place an older dog with a senior citizen and cover the cost of vetting for the dog as many seniors are on fixed incomes and the senior dog would otherwise be homeless. I'm really a supporter of this because it gives an older person companionship and a senior dog a home he or she may never get. Elaine |
Update Ok this just sucks! The lady who adopted Mindy is returning her, or rather I have to go get her. But it turns out Mindy is biting at almost every man she see's and has actually now not only broken skin but kept some of his flesh. And this is happening while on potty walks so it has appeared to have gotten worse. She wasn't biting any men here any more, we thought we had it trained out of her for the most part, other than being jumpy with them. I don't know what to do, I have done everything I can for Mindy. I am looking for a rescue to take her that can work with her further, so far they all say the same thing, NO! They cannot help a dog like that. I am sick over the whole thing to the point it made me vomit I was so upset. Right now my gut feels like someone is turning it inside out.. I don't know what happened to make Mindy so fearful of men that she will attack them, but obviously I cannot fix it for her.. |

Also she may know of other rescues in your area that can help.. She is so very young still only 2 |

My husband and I were just talking and he says he remembers a friend of Miko's (who we got Mindy from) who was very very mean and he said he could see him being mean to a dog. So it may have been Miko's friend that made her hate men because she was fine with Miko, her owner for 2 years. I am meeting the woman about an hour from here to pick her up at 11pm tonight after she gets off of work. I am so depressed, and upset |
 I am so sorry this is happening with Mindy. She surely deserves a loving home that can help her with her problems. |
Oh no! I'm so sorry! Poor baby! |
I just sent an email to these folks Yorkshire Terrier National Rescue, Inc. Hopefully I will at least hear back from them, and hopefully they can help. |
So sorry she didn't find her forever home, sounds like "the people aren't the problem" :DMindy needs a few visits with Cesar... I wish you luck, seems like a few YT members were giving great advise about turning her over, so I'm sure the will be able to help you out and won't have any issues finding one for Mindy;) and GOOD LUCK MINDY.... |

I have already contacted 8 different rescues in my state and nobody wants to, or is able to take her. I don't get it, I thought that is what rescue was for, to help the dogs. I had one write me back and YELL at me for letting her get mean..????????? They accused me of lying and just wanting to get rid of "my problem".. I was shocked!!! |
Karla, This makes me very sad . I have not seen her be the mean to men thing . It was just bullying Sunshine was our problem with her . I can check with my vet again, they seemed to think they could find her a home . She really is a great girl . Steve |

I have heard that they euthanize aggressive pups...you might want to ask them if that is true. UYR does take problem pups now in certain foster homes. I would try them: www.uyr.us |

Not all rescues will take dogs with biting issues...they are afraid of being sued. And, you need to understand that foster space is very limited! There are WAY too many yorkies being bred and sold to people who end up dumping them. It is a constant problem. We cannot possibly save all of them. I am sorry that a rescue blamed you. That really is unnecessary...but, there is good and bad in everything. I am sorry that I am so far from you. I think it would be easier to find a solution. I personally could not take her at this time because I am at my limit, but I have contacts locally and maybe could come up with something. Just being aggressive with men should not be an issue....with female dogs is an issue....it would be best to have her in a foster home with only male dogs. I have no problem working with problem children! Actually I love them...to me that is true rescue. If she is biting men, WHY is the woman allowing men to handle her?!?!!?!? Not that it matters now...since she is returning her. I am sure you told her she had an aggressive problem with men? Heck you told us so I am sure you told her all of the history. When we place a pup like that we make sure that they will not be put back in the same situation. Try United Yorkie Rescue since they may have space in a foster home closer to you. If you do not get anywhere....I can try to see if I can find a spot for her, but she will need to be shipped which I am not so keen on. Maybe we could get someone to fly round trip with her. |
