| Someone please explain this to me... So I was on Dogs In Danger tonight and ran across this dog Dogs In Danger: Our Dogs in Much Danger! Here is the issue: they have several dogs at this shelter who's post state that they were surrendered to the local Humane Society. So how did they get on death row? I thought Humane Societies did not euthanize. |

| I think it depends on the humane society itself. I know some in Nevada are kill shelters and have heard of others. Maybe someone else can answer better.

| Private shelters are the ones that don't euthanize. Most county shelters are supported by tax dollars are are only required to keep an animal for a short period of time before euthanizing them. Sadly, there are just too many unwanted cats and dogs and they must keep making space for more. The only way to stop this horrible cycle is to spay and neuter our pets. Did you know that 25% of all the dogs in shelters are purebreds? And that it's the backyard breeders, not the puppymills that are responsible for most of the purebred dogs who end up in shelters. | I just realized that you live in North Carolina, too. Did you know that we have twenty-six counties that still use the inhumane gas chamber to euthanize rather than lethal injection? | I think that here in the Phoenix area, they only keep some dogs 3 days. Some cats in kitten season only 1 day.
