A Rescue Dilemma Yorkie Rescue Colorado faces a dilemma. We were contacted yesterday and asked to take in a year and half old male yorkie who had his leg broken Thanksgiving Day. His family cannot afford to have his leg repaired. The vet has given us an approximate price of $3,000 to repair his leg. Seeing that the break happened a week ago it is a more difficult surgery. What's the dilemma? We don't have $3,000 to fix this little boy. If we don't take him the owner is going to have him put down because the dog is in such pain. It breaks my heart to have to turn him away, knowing that the only thing preventing him from having a long happy life is money! And people get angry when we ask a re-homing fee for the dogs we do make well. Little ones such as Reese are the reason. I will continue to look for a way to help him. Hug your little ones, they are so lucky to be loved and cared for. Trish Yorkie Rescue Colorado |
How can I help? I dont have $3000 but.. i do think that perhaps some vets will be generous to a rescue. I know that The alameda vet hospital. has a vet that also teaches at DU perhaps he can tape the surgery and use it at one of his classes? LEt me know!!! |
Aww.. that is truely heartbreaking.... it makes one feel so helpless, wishing I had $$$ to help all of the pups like him... So sorry that you having to face something like this.... |
Do they offer a financing plan? |

Sadly, there are very few vets who will help. Our vet gives us a discount and he's the only one who does. I've called every one of them - as far away as Denver and no one else with discount the fee. Alameda and CSU charge us the same as they charge anyone else, and they are even more expensive than a regular vet. On top of this Mia goes in for a MRI on Monday. Let's all pray for both of these little ones. Sadly - It's all about making money. Trish' Yorkie Rescue Colorado |
What about a credit card or financing the surgery? Then you can get a fund raiser organized...bake sale, pet supplies or whatever...to pay the money back. Is it possible to get a credit card in the name of your rescue just for situations like this? |
Maybe you can ask for donations to help him out. Can you find a vet that would do it probono, or take payments. |
i don't believe that the leg is still broken....it would seem that there will now be permanent damage...so sad. I can't believe this. Tina |
Trish has been on the phone/computer all day trying to find help for this little one! She has even tried to find another rescue that might be able to help. Meanwhile, this poor baby is in pain and the only alternative the owner has if he can't get someone to take him ... the vet he saw suggested he could put him down! How can a vet who has to power to help be so heartless?? He just wrapped it and this happened Thanksgiving day ... I'm certain that it is knitting back and that will cause the surgery to be more complicated!! Please, please pray that we will be able to find a way to help? |
i will call my friend who had that vet as a teacher at du. |

that is exactly what I dont understand, I would give my last penny for my baby. My friend will call the teacher from DU who also runs Alameda hospital. she said to look at maxfund, it supposedly helps owners of animals who cannot afford care. I will look it up. |
