News about Reese - a Decision has been made Dear Caring YT Members, Bettye and I have made a decision re: Reese. By the Grace of God, and the help of others, we will take up this challenge of making Reese's healing Reese's leg and have already found him the perfect home. I hope you not only agree with our decision, but that your heart is warmed by it. :) As you all know, Reese is a Yorkie who has a broken leg and his owner can not afford to have it repaired. He is a single parent who has custody of his eight year old daughter. This man has been out of work for 3 months because of a broken back. On Monday he starts a new job as a finish carpenter. In spite of financial difficulties he still took their pet to the vet, got him pain meds and did the kindest, most loving thing they could do...... they searched for a rescue to help, rather than have him suffer. We have spent numerous hours trying to find help for Reese. Last night two women called and said they were willing to pick him up and keep him until we could get him to a reasonable vet. Today they called and said that she had Reese in her possession. She was nearly hysterical when told me that it was the hardest thing she had ever done. She stood there while an 8 year old girl, tears streaming down her face, handed Reese over to her, saying: "I love you Reesie, but I know this is the best thing for you." The fact that they've had some hard financial times does not diminish the fact that they truly love Reese. Kerry, the lady who got him said the look in Reese's eyes when she took him away just broke her heart. He will be spending the night with her. On Monday he will see the vet and we will know more about what needs to be done and the cost. Our rescue goals for each pup are accomplished when we've found the perfect home - a home where a pup can love and be loved. We believe that Reese had the perfect home. Because of this we have decided that we will do all we have to do to have his legs surgically repaired. Then, with the same love it took to surrender Reese to us; we will send him to the perfect home, ... to the little girl he loves, to the family he loves and who love him enough to put his welfare above their own emotions. This fellow emailed many other rescues looking for help. We are the only rescue who responded, even after I called some myself. Why did we respond and say we didn't have the money, but would still try to help? It was too painful to say we wouldn't or couldn't help. In spite of our lack of funds, Bettye and I both believe that if God sends you to it, He will get you through it. This is the season of faith and miracles. We both have faith. Some people believe in miracles; Bettye and I count on them! Warmest regards, Trish & Bettye Yorkie Rescue Colorado |
Amazing. |
that's wonderful news! so your gonna fix him up and give him back to his family? did i read that right? |
I applaud your decision...it is all about finding the perfect home for these little ones and Reese will be in a warm loving home. This family put the dogs welfare above their own needs..you can't ask for more than that.:) |
That's what we said. Quote:
Yes, you read it right! LOL |

Bettye and Trish, Bless you for this decision. You are both amazing. Does the little girl know yet? I remember how close I was to my dogs as a child...this is a wonderful gift to her. |
simply wonderful. when do you plan on giving the dog back to the family? there is a lot of after care involved with a fracture repair surgery, plus bandages changes (if they keep a splint on) which cost money each time with most places. And then there are x-rays that are usually taken at 2 months post-op. where is reece's fracture? |
Sorry for the delay .... We have been so excited/stressed today ... I am still trying to absorb everything that has happened! ;) kalina82 ... the only thing I know for certain is that his little right leg is broken & it broke two bones. I will know more details on Monday. Unfortunately, we do know the follow-up that will be required. We would really like to give him back by Christmas eve but everything hinges on what we learn from the vet. Because of the care involved, he may need to stay in foster longer than that ... we will just have to follow the vet's instructions on the timeline. Gingergirlsmom ... Trish told the Dad and he literally burst into tears ... he certainly didn't ask and never expected this. When they tearfully said goodbye to little Reese, they never expected to see him again. We just left it up to him when to tell the child. I kinda hope that he went on & told her today. It breaks my heart to think that she has to suffer/grieve one minute longer than necessary! Tatiana11 ... Thank you so much! I would love to take him to Alameda! They have the most impressive doctors/hospital I have ever seen! We took Toto there 2-3 yrs. ago for every test that could be done. We knew that there was nothing wrong with her, I was just so paranoid about every tiny little thing that I read about, Patrick wanted me to be able to relax and enjoy her! They were absolutely wonderful ... and, pronounced her just perfect inside/out ... she was just about 2 lbs. overweight, which she still is! livingdustmops ... thank you so much for your support/advice and especially for your humor! Sometimes you just need a good laugh to keep from crying! BTW ... I have been wearing "Big Girls" for longer than I care to remember sometimes!! :p Trish & I have shed enough tears this week to last us for some time to come. All of you just can't imagine what your advice/support means to us! We know it's going to be a struggle for some time to come for our rescue to be able to handle every situation that comes along. So far, we have had a miracle every time a situation looks so impossible or a Yorkie baby seems too old, sick or seemingly unloveable by anyone but us ... there has always been someone with a heart of gold that sees them as we do. God bless every one of you that "gets it" ... it's a very special gift that not everyone has! |
