It may be that he has to stay in foster longer but we won't release him until it's safe. I am noting your info and believe me we will be contacting you ... any info/advice we can get to help this little guy will surely be appreciated! Thank you again!

hmm its a back leg with two broken legs? thats unusual unless its near the pelvis. i'm interested to see what the vet says on monday.

BelwoBelwo 12-01-2007 07:38 PM

The part about the little girl brought me tears. Love is about doing what is best for the person or in this case the yorkie. As I was reading, I imagine how I would've felt if I had to surrender my yorkies because I couldn't afford the vet bill. I felt ever ounce of pain the dad and the little girl felt while reading.

I am so happy that you are helping and will return the yorkie to this family. Bless you. Please update us and if possible post some pictures up. It would be nice if this yorkie could return home for christmas.

Dear Caring YT Members,

Bettye and I have made a decision re: Reese. By the Grace of God, and the help of others, we will take up this challenge of making Reese's healing Reese's leg and have already found him the perfect home. I hope you not only agree with our decision, but that your heart is warmed by it. :)

As you all know, Reese is a Yorkie who has a broken leg and his owner can not afford to have it repaired. He is a single parent who has custody of his eight year old daughter. This man has been out of work for 3 months because of a broken back. On Monday he starts a new job as a finish carpenter. In spite of financial difficulties he still took their pet to the vet, got him pain meds and did the kindest, most loving thing they could do...... they searched for a rescue to help, rather than have him suffer.

We have spent numerous hours trying to find help for Reese. Last night two women called and said they were willing to pick him up and keep him until we could get him to a reasonable vet. Today they called and said that she had Reese in her possession. She was nearly hysterical when told me that it was the hardest thing she had ever done. She stood there while an 8 year old girl, tears streaming down her face, handed Reese over to her, saying: "I love you Reesie, but I know this is the best thing for you."

The fact that they've had some hard financial times does not diminish the fact that they truly love Reese. Kerry, the lady who got him said the look in Reese's eyes when she took him away just broke her heart. He will be spending the night with her. On Monday he will see the vet and we will know more about what needs to be done and the cost.

Our rescue goals for each pup are accomplished when we've found the perfect home - a home where a pup can love and be loved. We believe that Reese had the perfect home. Because of this we have decided that we will do all we have to do to have his legs surgically repaired. Then, with the same love it took to surrender Reese to us; we will send him to the perfect home, ... to the little girl he loves, to the family he loves and who love him enough to put his welfare above their own emotions.

This fellow emailed many other rescues looking for help. We are the only rescue who responded, even after I called some myself. Why did we respond and say we didn't have the money, but would still try to help? It was too painful to say we wouldn't or couldn't help. In spite of our lack of funds, Bettye and I both believe that if God sends you to it, He will get you through it.

This is the season of faith and miracles. We both have faith. Some people believe in miracles; Bettye and I count on them!

Warmest regards,
Trish & Bettye
Yorkie Rescue Colorado

i sent in a small donation, I know every little bit helps!

bettyeanne 12-02-2007 07:11 PM

You all are making me cry ....

BelwoBelwo ... thank you so much ... I know we have all had financial difficulties at one time in our lives and I can only imagine how helpless this Dad felt. He did everything he could possibly do himself and it had to take a tremendous amount of love to make this decision. We are praying that everything will go well enough for Reese to go home by Christmas but it will be up to the vet. He may be with his foster Mom longer than that but just knowing that eventually he will be back in his home is so wonderful!
tiggerr36792 ... thank you for anything ... we appreciate every little thing and especially your prayers that we can help these babies.
TLC ... Thank you so much ... we are so anxious for him to recover and be back with his family! I know it's a little out of the ordinary, but Trish & I don't usually go by a pattern!! :)
time2go ... Thank you! We are just overwhelmed by the caring, loving response to this little guy. His foster Mom says that he is just the sweetest little one and he is so loving! You can just tell that he was raised in a very loving home.
kalina82 ... thank you, Kellie! I will update as soon as we hear tomorrow. I don't know what time the appointment is. I can hardly wait to hear!
Grayson's mom ... Thank you so much ... you will just never know how very much we appreciate all that has been done! We just have one miracle after the other.

I hope you get some sort of good news tomorrow and can find a surgeon to do the surgery. I dontated also to help with Reese's surgery and hopefully the rest of the money that is needed will come in soon before it is too late to save the little guys leg. Please keep us posted. Also I see that you take new donated items to sell on your Yorkie rescue site. That is a great idea. I will have to see what I can do to try and donate to that also. I just bought some cute Christmas bows that are tiny for my yorkie kids but I will be happy to donate those to your cause. Let me know if you want me to take pics of them and send them to you or how it will work. There are 10 of them and they are small ones with the rubber bands on the back.

I just bought an item from your store. I hope everything goes along smoothly. :)

Thank you so very much! The response to this little guy is just overwhelming ... Trish & I have just cried rivers! We will know more about his condition sometime this afternoon after the vet's see him. We are just praying that it can be a simple repair. Yes, absolutely, we take anything that anyone wants to donate! My Patrick is going to ban me from his "stuff" .... he shops for "Big Boy Toys" more than a woman shops for shoes!! :p I found a "primo" item of his last night & by tomorrow AM it's gonna be in our General Store! Geeezzzz ... it's just sitting there gathering dust! I will update here as we get news and I finally have a pic of little Reese that I will post in a few minutes! Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!! God bless you!

Just look at this sweet little man ....

... isn't he adorable!!! Foster Mom says he is just the sweetest little thing ... gets along with her babies and, except for an occasional little cry because of the pain, is quiet and well-mannered! :) I can certainly understand why he is so loved.

Awww poor baby :( I am so happy to hear he is receiving medical attn. He looks like such a good friend:animal36 to have.
Those little casts are so sad looking. Here is one of Koda's little cast. Hope you don't mind me putting it here. Just to show even though times got rough and tough, these little guys make it through strong and great:)

Hugs to sweet Reese

sweetr72 12-03-2007 06:44 AM

You are so right when you say its all about the money...Its sad that a family had to lose their beloved pet because they couldnt afford surgery..imagine if you had to give your real child to a new home because you could afford surgery..its just wrong and sad..

Oh, poor Koda!! [of course we don't mind you putting it here!] He is adorable ... when did he break his little leg and did it heal OK? I have had no experience with anything like this and am so anxious to hear what the vet says about little Reese! I have so many things going on in my head right now, I can't keep everything straight.

Thanks! I know every stuation is different too. We always caution prospective new owners that they need to be certain they can afford these babies. As a rule, our Toto is really inexpensive to maintain ... food, grooming, vet care, etc. It's just clothes and "bling" that gets expensive ... we all know that's not really necessary! But we have to keep in the back of our minds catastrophic illness, medical emergencies, etc. that are absolutely necessary to address. This man is a great owner but this happened to Reese at the absolute worse time in his life through no fault of his own. Helping little Reese and getting him back to his loving home is "Christmas" for Trish & I and we just ask that everyone, who will, help us pray that everything goes well for him!

CO_yorkie_momma 12-03-2007 07:59 AM

Bettyanne,
Do you want me to send the bows to you or just send a picture or what do I need to do. I was going to email you last night but the email address on your siggy is different from the one on the website so I didnt know which one is correct. Maybe the one in the siggy is just misspelled. Let me know.

CO_yorkie_momma 12-03-2007 08:11 AM

Maybe it would be an idea to start a Colorado Rescue for sale thread and show all of the items you have for sale in your store in it here on YT. That would also bring more attention to your website and what you ladies are doing for these dogs in need.

JiggityJig 12-03-2007 01:13 PM

I'm not one easily moved to tears by stories I read on the web, even when they DO touch me. That said, this one has made me weepy.

Don't let anyone make you second guess yourselves on the decision to place the dog BACK with the family. I know that "paying people's bills" isn't the function of a RESCUE, and that you don't want to set up a precedent for being expected to do so regularly...

...but this certainly sounds like a special case, and what incredible CHRISTMAS ANGELS you are being to a daddy, and daughter, and a dog. You must honestly seem like a miracle from God to them.

Please continue to keep us updated on this case, and the need associated. And we'll want pictures of the eventual reunion! :)

I Love Bailey 12-03-2007 01:36 PM

I made a purchase on the website.
Sending prayers for Reece for a speedy recovery and for those of you that went way beyond to help him.
You are the true Angels. God bless you both!

Tatiana11 12-03-2007 01:43 PM

Any news?

ARCHIE 12-03-2007 01:55 PM

What a sad story. Reece is the cutest. I hope his leg can be fixed
and you get what you need to cover the costs. I will be sending
something to you Bettyanne for him. Prayer's are coming for this
little one. You and Trish are Christmas Angel's.

bettyeanne 12-03-2007 05:44 PM

Finally!!!

Sorry I am so late getting this update but it has just been a horrendous day [personally]! First off, Reese can't be scheduled until Thursday but we have been assured because of the "age" of the break it won't make it worse. He is being kept extremely comfy by his foster Mom and I know that he misses his family, but he is happy as a clam. I think the wait is much harder on us than it is on this little man. We won't know what the surgery will require until Thursday but recovery will be about 4-8 weeks depending on whether they have to put in plate, pins, etc. It does mean that Santa probably won't be able to take him home by Christmas Eve ... but he will deliver him in his "Santa suit" whenever Reese is healed up and it's OK with the vet!! :p Also, arrangements will be made for the little girl to visit Reese when he has his surgery and at least once a week until he's ready to come home. I am so excited about all this, I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I will make notes and post again later. I know we can never thank you all enough for your generosity and prayers ... this couldn't have happened without you all!!

One very important thing that I almost forgot. After learning Reese's story, they will speak to the Dr. and explain the situation and they feel certain he will give us a break on the cost!! Yippeeee!!!

yorkiesmiles 12-03-2007 09:27 PM

Thank you so much for this update!! Sorry he has to wait until Thursday for the surgery and might not make it home until after Christmas - but there will be a New Year & a New Start for this little guy thanks to the generosity of dog lovers and your hard work!

I pray the vet gives you a break on the price - what a blessing that will be.

Thrilled to know that this little girl will be able to at least visit Reese! I can only imagine her face when her daddy told her all the good news.

Thanks for posting his picture - he is a cutie.

I'll be anxiously awaiting the outcome & info you get after the surgery.

May the Lord bless you for the work you are doing.

kalina82 12-04-2007 04:02 AM

Hope the surgery goes well on Thursday and he has a quick recovery!

bettyeanne 12-04-2007 04:24 AM

Thank you all for your encouragement and support! We are so anxious for Reese to have all this behind him and be on the road to recovery.

Kellie .... Trish & hubby came over last night and we talked through all the details and Reese will be staying overnight in the hospital. I have heard so much info I can't seem to process it all ... but I am happy that they will keep him to make sure he is tiptop before foster Mom brings him home. I would be mortified that I couldn't take care of him properly! :)

ARCHIE 12-04-2007 07:05 AM

Prayer's coming for Reece that Thursday brings only good news and
his leg can be repaired. That's wonderful the cost might be brought down.
Finger's crossed for you girls who do this work in making the helpless
feel loved and cared for. Bless all of you.

That's great news. Its always best to monitor then over night in hospital and give them tons of pain meds so their comfy. They usually just sleep which is what we want so they stay calm and recover. The next day i'm sure he'll be perfectly fine to take home, maybe a little drowsy but that's ok. Make sure his foster mom has a crate set up for him or an expen. I have TONS of discharge instructions if you want them LOL i have it memorzied from repeating it everyday. PM me if you want them. I find that a lot of other places are lax in their discharge instructions and bad things can happen at home if the owners aren't informed enough.

Doodlebug 12-04-2007 04:11 PM

I am so happy that this baby is going back home where his family who loves him is waiting for him. I haven't heard of a rescue doing this before but I am so happy that your heart is in the right place and you can take the circumstances into consideration. The timing of the owner's accident and the pup's accident was a freaky thing and it's doubtful that this kind of financial burden would happen to him again. I'm a little low on cash right now but I'm going to look around and see if I have some items to donate to your shop. God Bless You and my prayers for the little one's quick recovery.
