| Tick covered yorkie I just got my Yorkie (Cooper) on Friday he is 10 months old and is covered in ticks I put advantix on him Friday at 6:30 by 10:00pm many of the ticks fell off, however there are still so many on him The original owner kept him outside in the heat and exposed to ticks. What can I do to clear him of ticks? Do I just wait it out?

| Thank goodness you have rescued that poor baby! I think it would be a good idea to take him to the vet and have him checked over. Are they the kind of tics that cause lyme disease? I'd be concerned with that too. Makes me sick that his previous owner allowed him to get in this condition and I'm so glad he's got you to love and care for him now. Keep us updated on how Cooper is doing. What a cute name you gave him!

| You could get a tick comb and take them off that way, you have to be sure to take the whole head out, but tick combs usually do the job.

| When we would get one in rescue like this we would first wash the dog and then hand pick off the ticks with tweezers. We would drop the ticks into a glass full of alcohal to drown them. I would not wait out getting the ticks off as they bring a lot of disease and can drain your puppy of blood.

| Zodiac flea and tick shampoo and spray I had a problem with ticks a few years ago and used Zodiac flea and tick shampoo and spray for puppies and kittens and it worked great. It also keeps them away from your pet too. It smells ok too. Lynn |

| Ticks almost gone I spent most of the night pulling ticks off Cooper. I know I got all the big ones there are still the little ones on him too small to get with hands and Cooper was exhausted after working with him last night. We got up this morning and he feels much better less scratching and I did find a lot of dead tiny ticks on the floor that I vacumed up. he seems so much happier he is playing with my other dogs and exploring his new house. Thank you all for your suggestions not only does Cooper feel better but I do as well.

| My vet told me yesterday that when a dog comes in and they are infested with fleas, they wash them in dawn dishsoap and then give them a flea preventative. I don't know how long you should wait to wash him, since you just put the flea medicine on him. Atleast a couple of days so it can soak into him good. Good luck! |

| I'd try my best to get them off, but would definetly get to the vet as they can get really sick from them. Shame on that breeder.

| The puppy that I was going to get 2 weeks ago, was infested with fleas. And it was so bad that she had sores on her back . I felt sorry for her. |

| Mojo got into seed ticks (those very tiny itty bitty ticks) last summer while hiking. The vet told us to get Orvitol spray (we got ours at a local vet/farm supply store and I know our vet carries it too). She said to spray some on a rag and then rub it on. Mojo was covered, head to tail and it is safe to rub on all over...don't spray, rub it on. Most fall off dead on the rag....I checked again later that night and used tweezers to get the rest. Then, he got a good soothing bath. I just switched from K9 Advantix to Frontline Plus....we will see how I like it this summer. Poor baby! Big hugs!
