Donating YT 500 Club Member | Steps or Ramp? Jasper is 4 mos old today! WOOT WOOT So the DH and I have decided that he is now old enough and big enough to get either steps or a ramp for our bed. They also make one that is both. I am looking for your opinions and/or advice about which you believe is better. Also, if you think he may be too young or small. Two weeks ago he weighed 2.5 lbs. Since he loves his food and doesn't leave any extra at the end of each day...I know he weighs over 3 lbs. now. Thanks for anyone who chimes in.

| I like those "scalloped ramps", that provide the babies some little speed bumps to use to provide the traction you dont get on a straight ramp incline. I have the ramp to get up on the bed.... My babies can go up steps, but they have issues going down, from step to step....maybe if the steps are wide enough to accomodate them as they jump from one step down to the next level..... |

| Personally, I don't think it's ever too young to train. Just like kids, things tend to absorb and stick better when they're younger. And you don't have to worry about changing bad habits. I have steps, but I've been thinking about getting a ramp. I gave a little girl coming home soon & I'm thinking that she might not be physically able to make it up the steps. I just haven't been able to find one that I like yet.

| I bought my stairs at CVS. They were like $10. They are nice- I noticed Peanut likes to go down them, rather than up. He is such a Momma’s boy he knows all he has to do is scratch at the bed and I will pick him up, or the couch.. but when we are eating on the couch guess he knows how to use his stairs!!

| Ramps! I personally vote ramp. My first yorkie Bambi has springs in her legs so she can jump anywhere but my littlest Dotti is daintier when it comes to jumping. The vet said her kneecaps or slightly off to the side but don't slip, so I figured I better prevent anything from happening. I made ramps! I measured from the couch at the incline I wanted, had home depot cut the wood. I bought carpet to staple on for traction and 2x1 pieces for the sides (bumpers). I have one piece that sticks out perpendicular to the ramp and props the ramp up, there's hinges as well. I made three ramps for about $10 each, one for my bedroom, living room and grandma's house. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-new-ramp.html |
