I personally vote ramp. My first yorkie Bambi has springs in her legs so she can jump anywhere but my littlest Dotti is daintier when it comes to jumping. The vet said her kneecaps or slightly off to the side but don't slip, so I figured I better prevent anything from happening.
I made ramps! I measured from the couch at the incline I wanted, had home depot cut the wood. I bought carpet to staple on for traction and 2x1 pieces for the sides (bumpers). I have one piece that sticks out perpendicular to the ramp and props the ramp up, there's hinges as well. I made three ramps for about $10 each, one for my bedroom, living room and grandma's house.
