Bad breath?

Just saw the old post I made. I changed my dogs from Fromm grain free beef to their pork and peas. It completely took away the bad breath. Now my concern is pork? I always heard not to feed a dog pork. They both are doing great on it. No stomach issues. I just wonder about staying long term on pork?

I'm weird with pork myself and my little Cheri has a breath issue - my oldest Chanel has perfect breath - they both eat the same thing...I used to use a spray and cannot remember the name but it was great!

I'll try to think about what the name was - took Cheris breath to a new fresh minty breath heights lol

I found it - it's PETZLIFE oral care - rockin the house at 25 bucks a bottle but it really works - I used it for years - need to get some myself - BIG change in Cheri's breath and I used if for quite a few years - and brushing her teeth - now I need some!

There was another thread asking if pork is ok for Yorkies & this was my response:
There are some dog foods made w/pork. I've fed Party Animal canned food w/ salmon & pork, they did excellent on it & loved it. It's perfectly fine, you can check the fat content on the label. Obviously, they don't use the fatty part of the pork, like bacon...that would be bad. Any table scraps of seasoned pork for people would be bad too.

Pork should not be fed because it causes pancreatitis in dogs
A statement I have encountered quite often recently, unlike any material that substantiates the claim. According to veterinary literature, the most common causes for pancreatitis are
a high fat, low protein diet
obesity
trauma (car accidents, falling)
other diseases (Cushing's syndrome, diabetes)
tumors
some drugs and toxins (e.g. antibiotics, insecticides)
genetic predisposition (hyperlipidemia, e.g. mini schnauzer, cocker spaniel)
As part of a well balanced diet, pork isn't any more dangerous than beef, lamb or chicken. The fat content is key, and many pets suffer from pancreatitis when fed excessively fatty, greasy table scraps - which are not part of a balanced diet. The most susceptible animals are those who don't eat anything but kibble all year and suddenly get an overload of "goodies" on thanksgiving or other holidays. One other thing that doesn't quite fit the bill is the fact that there is a good number of premium quality dog foods that use pork meal as a protein source. I very much doubt that a single manufacturer out there would risk their excellent reputation by purposefully including an ingredient in their food that is a proven cause of pancreatitis.

Jack started having bad breath and the vet said his teeth were fine - just a small build up of plaque but not enough to have a dental done. I started using the CET poultry flavored toothpaste on him and within a couple of weeks his bad breath is gone. Make sure you get way in the back of your pups mouth.
