| Vectra 3D? Hello all, So I just gave her first dose of Vectra 3D because I'm taking her on a lot of walks (around the neighborhood, in parks, wooded areas, etc.) and I didn't want her to catch anything. The entire amount seemed like a lot, but that's what the instructions said to do and I read them 5 times... She seems okay. I have since read some bad things online and here on YT about Vectra 3D. It is making me concerned, but I've also read that every dog is different and some react and some don't. Rylie is completely fine. She has no visible adverse effects from the medication. She's not acting funny, walking funny, itching, etc. Nothing. She's herself. I guess I am wondering if it is okay to give her this stuff if she didn't react poorly? I was also wondering about rotating flea meds since I read about that. Is it okay to stick with one brand if you are only going to give it maybe 5 months out of the year? Opinions are welcome and needed! Thanks! |

| I wish you luck, I hate flea medication and only use it when really needed. I used frontline and Laci got so sick, it scared the heck out of me. I now use advantage just three drops. Its very hot in Florida so we dont go out so much in the summer. I recently purchased this Natural Flea Control and Tick Remedy. Official TripleSure Site. Flea and Tick, to use after she bathes. I hate putting pesticides on my dog, If it can kill a flea or tick I wonder what it does to her. I know its needed during certain seasons and I do use Half the dose but I hate using it

| Thank you for your response. I was thinking about using less than the full dose because it did seem like A LOT for such a little girl. Does cutting the dose keep the effectiveness? She didn't react to it so I was just wondering if it was okay to keep using it. Do you always use the same med or do you rotate? |

| About a year ago, Levi's old vet started recommending Vectra 3D. I bought it, THEN came home and read reviews, and took it back. Never used it. I understand that every product will have some poor reviews, but this one seemed to have more than usual. I'm glad Rylie didn't have a bad reaction! We use Frontline Plus, and I do split that dose because he is so small. We don't rotate, and this has worked well for us, but I don't think it's as effective in other areas.

Thing about the internet (and any complaint venue really) is generally only people with negative reviews tend to bother to post. The ones who are just okay with it can't be bothered. Sometimes you see the ones that are really happy posting, but not as often. I hear a lot of good things about Frontline Plus... maybe I will ask about that and return the doses of Vectra I have left, but I think I will try discussing my concerns with my vet first. He didn't even want us using flea meds until it was absolutely necessary. I asked about them when I first got Rylie and he was adamant that we wait. I am really thinking at this point that it is an individual dog thing. Some react, some don't. Just like humans and medications. Medication reactions are almost always very serious too, human or animal. Part of the reason Rylie didn't have an issue might be because she's 6lbs. I don't know what the weights were of all the dogs having issues, but in the threads I read the dogs were 4lbs or smaller... | |

| I have used Vectra on both of my yorkies and also used a cat version on my cousin's cats when we had a huge flea problem in our house. We had NO issues with it and it worked great. Doing that, coupled with a dose of capstar, bug bombing the house, and rug doctoring everything got rid of our fleas. That being said, different dogs react to different things. My vet now sells First Shield, which I was told is pretty much the same thing as Vectra, just a different name. I bought some of that, but I am waiting until June to put it on the dogs. I personally don't like Frontline because it does nothing to repel ticks with is a huge issue in the county I live in. The county I live in is the worst county in the state and third worst county in the country for Lyme's disease, so I have to use something on my dogs to try to repel ticks as much as possible. , especially since we like to take walks on wooded trails around the area. I only use flea/tick meds during the late spring to early fall. In my opinion, as long as she is acting fine, I wouldn't worry about it. I have heard of people giving half doses since our dogs are so small. Smokey is about 11 lbs and Chip is about 7 lbs, so I thought about splitting one dose between the two of them because the weight range is 2.5 lbs to 20 lbs. I haven't decided yet.

| I used the whole dose. My dogs are both right under 15 pounds, so my vet gave me the dose for dogs under 20 lbs. They also have a savings program going right now: http://www.vectrapet.com/check-program/

| I've used Vectra 3D on Ian, and the first time I had to bathe him within 20 minutes because he was shaking and was extremely lethargic. Shortly after his bath he began to act like his normal self. I called his vet, and he said to wait a few days, then give him only a couple of drops of it. I did that, but unfortunately Ian had the same negative reaction. Ian weighs 9.3lbs.
