Buddy Belt Question Currently I have a size 3.5 for Mitzy. I like to have it on hole #3 but its a little loose behind her legs. When its on hole #4 it fits great but I have all this extra "belt" hanging to the side. I'm wondering if getting her a size 3 will fit her better. She has a 15" chest so according to the size chart the 3.5 is the correct size but I feel like its to big since its on the next to last hole to fit right. I guess my question is, does anyone have a size 3 belt and a pup with a 15" chest that fits ok?? I just hate to buy a $50 harness and its to small, but if it fits her better than the 3.5 its well worth the money. Any advice?? |
I don't think you would be happy with the 3. It would have to be on the last hole or second to last hole. Maximo was on the cusp between a 3 and a 4. I started him in a 3, but he has large chest muscles, so I moved him to a 4. The half size was not available at the time. At first I thought it was huge and I was annoyed by all of the extra belt hanging off to the side. However, the BB molded to his body and now I actually like the extra belt. |
I re-measured my boys: Maximo with the 15 inch chest wears the BB size 4 on a tight setting Teddy with the 14 inch chest wears the BB size 3 on the 3rd hole in from the end of the belt. There may be something about the cut of the 3.5 that doesn't fit your dog's body right. The half size was intended for little dogs with large chests. |
Cooper is 12 pounds, has a 15" chest and wears size 3.5 on the 3rd hole. It's perfect. We originally bought the 4, but it fit on the last hole and I was afraid it would stretch too much and get too big. Max is 12.5 pounds, has a 14.5" chest and wears a size 3.5 on the 3rd hole as well. They both fit perfectly. I would imagine that a 3 would be too small for both of my boys. |
I have the 2nd to the smallest and there wasn't a hole that would fit Pnut comfortably, so I took it to a shoe repair/leather shop at my Mall and he made 2 extra holes! One hole for when he has on clothes, and the 2nd for when he is nakie, It fits like a glove now, and you would never be able to tell I had it custom fit! The guy who did it even matched the little silver circle thing around the hole!! I would try to look into that! |

I started out with the size 4 for her but it was just to big and the 3.5 fits great but it has to be so far over which annoys me but I'd rather it fit than have it to small so I will stick with the 3.5 for now :) thank you all for your input!! I appreciate it |

Uni got a used size 3, and she is between 5-6 lbs and 11.5" chest. she wore the size 3 on the smallest hole when we first got it, but i *think* she has put on wieght since. Today with a t shirt on, she fit the middle hole. |

Reesie is eventually going to be about 6-7lbs and I got the size 3. He is 4lbs(ish) right now and with a Target t-shirt on, he fits into the 3 on the 2nd hole. I'm thinking when he is full grown, he will fit into one of the middle to end holes. If all fails, Snick can use it:). Best Harness ever BTW!!!! He never coughs while he wears it and tugs!!!!! :) Viv |

I wanna bump this thread because..... well, I am a harness addict, LOL. I think I have a problem. No I wish I could just find that perfect harness for Jackson. I do love the Puppia's but have found it to be stretching over time. Also with spring/summer heading our way, we will going to the beach again. The mesh-ish material of the Puppia attracts a lot of sand and it's not easy to just wash right off with a hose... little pieces of sand end up staying on the harness until it goes in the wash. I really love the looks of the Buddy Belt, it just looks so nice! I think I'm most worried about comfort. The leather doesn't seem to bother them? I am just not sure how big on leather I am but I've never really tried it out before. How does it do w/ some water? When he swims in the pool, he is not wearing a harness but when on the beach, and in the water, he is in his harness as he's usually on leash so it will be getting wet occasionally. I am looking for an all around stylish harness, but one that is comfortable, and works good for the great outdoors and is easy to put on/off! He's never in a harness all day long (usually) but comfort is def. a big concern of mine for him. I'm kind of liking the idea of a Buddy Belt too because it would be nice to be able to put a harness OVER his clothes (even tho winter is about over...) Thanks~ I know I'm crazy. I just wish I could find that perfect harness out there. He does have an 18" chest so I guess that means he'd be in a size 6??? |

I am all for the BB, I have had the same one now for 2 years. It has been thru he## and back! It has been at the desert, the river, the lake, the snow.. you name it! It has been dipped in water as well! I can tell Pnut likes it too, Being leather it forms to his body. I got a little bigger size for the reason I can put it over his clothes. Which works perfect! He was a little to small, for the one I got him. I couldnt get a good hole that seemed to fit him nice, so I took it to a shoe/purse repair, and the guy made 2 xtra holes. It looks amazing! Looking at it, you wouldn't realize I had it custom made! I think you would love it! Stylish, comfort and does its job! When I got it DH was kinda mad I spent that much on it. Then when he looked at it, he was like WOW thats really good quality! So he likes it to. The underside to it is really soft! Anyways I am all for the BB I think they are great. |

Thanks!!! The price initially scared me away for sure. But then again I'm the fool who spends $30 on a Fetching Tag id tag. :D I really love the style of it but was always worried about it being hard to put on/take off with the belt and the leather being uncomfortable. But I watched a video of someone putting it on and it actually looked pretty quick and easy so I started thinking I might like it. Thanks for your review!! Sounds like it can go through a lot and still last a while. Btw, where can you purchase the half sizes?? I can't find a site. Because Jackson is just barely 18" around the chest (he's prob more like 17.5") so I'd be a bit concerned getting a size 6 (which is like 18"-22" or something) but a size 5 ending in 18" would scare me too because I want some extra room. It seems if there is a size 5.5 it'd be what we would need. |

The leather is completely comfortable. My boys will take naps in them after walks sometimes. Some dogs may be a little more sensitive at first in the armpit area. BB sells pads for that. The bigger the BB, the stiffer the leather starts out. Max's size 4 took a little longer to break in and mold to his body than the buttery size 3. |

Its really easy to put on, ESP with you and Jackson LoL, Knowing you, you will probably train him to step into or something CRAZY! haha It is really easy to put on, they just step into it, you pull it up and it goes on like a belt. The longest Pnut had it on was a whole day. Early morning till night. He never showed me he was uncomfortable, or wanted it off. I would know too, because when he has a shirt on or jacket he will rub on the floor or wall to try to get it off lol which tells me he is kinda uncomfortable. He will sleep in it too. When I have seen him sleeping with it on, he looks pretty darn comfy it doesn't look like it is a nunsense. Im not sure about the half size, but if you know a good shoe repair they can add a hole for you, I will post a pic of what the guy did to mine if you like. |

I am pretty sure that the 3.5 is the only half size available. BB has a Facebook page and a customer service email. They are usually very helpful. |
^^In fact, ask a BB representative about the water issue. It may just be that they don't recommend swimming in them. |
3 Attachment(s) Here are the pics, you can see where he added some holes. LoL AND you can see where I was a dumb bunny, I put Pnuts advantix on and then I forgot and put his belt on :thumbdown The dang advantix got all over the inside. I then washed it off lol |
1 Attachment(s) Hope these are bigger pics! |
1 Attachment(s) One more time! |
BB's are the easiest harnesses to get on and off. Get one size up if they are between sizes, bc otherwise they won't fit when they are wearing clothes. I hand sewed in my own faux sheepskin liners bc Uni's armpits were chafing. I got mine used from ebay for around 30 bucks with the matching leash, and it was a limited edition metallic purple color, jealous? LOL Uni has jumped in creeks and lakes with it on, and it is still just fine. I love it. Even if i paid full price, I would still love it. As long as you don't loose it, or they don't gain a ton of weight, you will never have to buy another harness, ever! Oh yea, Uni is between 5-6 lbs and she wears a size 3. |
