| X-Pen recommendations? Our puppy comes home in a little over a month and we're looking for an X-Pen for him to be in when we're not home and maybe during the night (although we also bought a crate that he will at least start off sleeping in, we think). We're looking at a few different X-Pens and wanted to see if anyone had any advice on which would be best. The puppy was born Jan 1st, we'll be bringing him home mid May and we'd like whatever X pen we buy to be large enough for when he's full grown. Any advice is greatly appreciated! We like the size of this one, and that it has a bottom (great for accidents) but I'm not sure if it's large enough? Amazon.com: Pet Gear Home N Go Pet Pen - Medium... We bought this one (haven't taken it out of the box yet) but after reading reviews on a similar product, we're wondering if the puppy might be able to lift up the bottom and escape? Also, it has no bottom and is pretty large. Precision Pet Soft Side Exercise Pen for Pets at PETCO Then there's the more traditional one that I'm sure works fine but it's rather large (we live in a condo). Does a Yorkie need that much room (I really don't know the answer to this, this will be our first Yorkie)? http://www.petco.com/product/11371/P...t=OnSiteSearch Last edited by NewYorker10; 04-06-2010 at 05:36 AM. |

| Welcome to YT and congrats on the new baby! I use a child's play pen. Summer Infant Surround Sound Play Yard : Target My pup was a year old when I got him, and I never had an issue with it. He never was able to escape, but it also depends on how you train them. I've mentioned this in another thread, and if you teach your puppy to wait at the door and never put him/her in our out of the pen over the railing, you won't be teaching him/her that it's ok to jump over. They're smart and can figure out they can get out, but they don't need you to encourage them. Good luck!

| Pen for puppy Oh boy what a decision. Well the summer yard is similar to what we purchased. I got an x-pen on amazon. Paid $49.00. I also have a crate that I purchased at walmart for $20. I also got him a target baby blanket for the crate and and he loves that. So here's the problem with the pen. He would rather be in the crate in the dining room than in the x-pen with the crate inside. We want him in the x-pen so if he has to go he can do it on the pee pad and not get into trouble in a large dining room/kitchen area. I'm thinking that it would have been better to get him a pen that has a door on it so he can come and go and use it for feeding too then just close it up when we have to leave him for several hours. I am looking forward to the responses you get. These little puppies are just so precious. M
