What?!?! That's ridiculous. Not even barely any meat, which is usually where people pay the big $$$ for dog food when it contains more meat. That's totally a ridiculous price. I could get Fromm grain-free 4.4lb bag for like $10.99 and IMO, it contains way better ingredients and a lot more meat. They also had great coupons and I've gotten my last 2 bags for around $5.99. The NV Instinct that I rotate to is a bit more on the expensive side and I think it's mainly the packaging... since it's a zip lock top, but it's still less. I think it's around $17 for almost 5lbs. The Blue Buffalo just changed their Wilderness to totally grain-free, but it still seems quite expensive the last time I was there. |
Gas, throwing up and all that jazz!! A lot of times, when a dog is rescued, they have come from a place that either has too many dogs, or the owners don't really care about them. Your dog might think that when you feed him, it will be the last meal he EVER gets. I think I'd start out feeding him small meals throughout the day. I know it may be a hassle, but if it works, it will be worth it!! Once he figures out that he will get food on a regular basis, he should start to slow down eating. Then you can start backing down on the number of times he gets fed per day. Granted, this way my take quite a while, but he may not know that he doesn't have to gulp his food. Making him wait to eat may only worsen the problem. Good luck with him. Suz |

Has anyone had experience with any of the Taste of the Wild products? I am trying out the Sierra Mountain Canine Formula with Roasted Lamb. The dogs were going through their previous food way too fast. The folks at Pet Supermarket mentioned that maybe they weren't getting full or possibly enjoyed the flavor of their other food a little too much. What do you think? |

I am somewhat picky about what I feed mine but I also need to be able to get it fairly easily. I have mine on Avoderm Small Breed Puppy. I have my 2 adult dogs (not Yorkies) on Avoderm Small Bites Baked. Of course they also get baked chicken once in awhile too. I can get it at both Pet Speciality stores near my home and work. It is not overly expensive (4.4lb bag for 11.00). THe biggest thing is that it is healthy and they LOVE it! I put it down and 99% of the time it is gone in 5 minutes easy. I have had a picky eater before and that was heard. Mine are not big on treats but I can use the kibble as a treat for training and they still love it at mealtime. Their coats are great and they are healthy. As a mom I could not ask for much more. :D BTW, Petco has a deal that if you are a member ( free sign-up), then they track your purchases. After you buy 10 bags then they send you a certificate for a free bag. |
I feed all three dog EVO (but the high protein made my shih tuz fart a lot pheeewwww) they can not handle the corn in the RC. The gang stayed with a friend over Thanksgiving (went to see the skin kids ) and came home itching and scratching for over a week because my friend gave them RC instead of the EVO. I guess they are like us... we all react to foods differently |
I used to feed my furkids Royal Canine and they had ichy skins.( Royal Canine is expensive and not good quality dog food) switched Wellness dog food.. |
I was feeding Riley Royal Canin....but just recently switched to Orijen Puppy. The 2.5lb bag of Royal Canin was $17.99..... I can get a 5lb bag of the Orijen Puppy for the same price!! Crazy!!!! |
I also use this food and I really like it. I agree with the spacifics for individual breeds. I feel that since Yorkies have a big problem with their teeth that this should be a help toward that issue. I mix mine with Iams small and toy. Then I do a little Caesars with the mix at times. I also cook chicken, and beef. I do a little bit of a few things but the dry combo is always the base of their meals. |
Royal Canin is VERY expensive, but its the only food my dogs will get in the future :) Fido gets ugly hair of all other dog foods, he gets the runs of them, gets too fat etc. But on Royal Canin his coat stays very good, its very shiny and beautiful, his ''leavings'' are good, he poops much less on it, he always finishes his meal, and i dont find anything negative about this food except the price. I rather want a happy healthy yorkie and to have less money for myself. I pay 4.000 ISK (Icelandic Króna) for 2 kg. bag of obesity food for Fido. 4.000 ISK is about 50-55 dollars i think. |
My babies won't eat RC they are all so different just like people :) |
yes, excatly :) |
Royal Canin has LOTS of formulas! They do not all contain corn. The one I am feeding now has no corn and lots of the other formulas do not either. I think it is a good food. Maybe not the top premium food but mine do very well on it and relaly LOVE it. They will pick those little kibble out of whatever else I have ever mixed in. I think some of the highest star foods on the dog food analysis site are too high in protein for yorkies. So, there is no one answer for everyone. I do not think it is right to say Royal Canin is a terrible food -- it is not! It might not meet the requirements some owners have put on their food but there has been plenty of testing and the nutritional value is there. Mine sure have a nice shiny coat and plenty of energy! I don't always feed Royal Canin. I have thought of switching to a non-grain food just to see how they do. So, I am no super fan -- just saying it is not a bad food and no one feeding their dogs Royal Canin need feel bad about it! |
