We put up 2 gates, one on top of the other....double decker style. It worked. I also had my husband secure plexy glass to the bottom gate, so the boys couldn't climb up it and hurt themselves.

Where do you find plexy glass?

He has been getting out EVERY SINGLE TIME we put him in the kitchen and leave. He finds a way. We put cardboard on the bottom gate, because he climbs the gate, and he actually chewed a hole big enough to squeeze through and then climbed it. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen him do it. We've got two doorways leading into our kitchen, so we have more gates ordered. We will have 4 gates, one on top of the other, in the doorways. If this doesn't work, then I don't know what will. We really want to let him stay in the kitchen cause it's such a big area. I will keep everyone updated. (The new gates coming are mesh.....he won't be able to climb these.)

Bought the plexy glass at Home Depot. With an electric drill screw it in at edges to secure.

You just brought back funny memories of my second yorkie Trixie 20 years ago. My first (Roxy) was so good - and lazy so she never would try and escape. A year later I decided to get Trixie as a companion because Roxy was so sweet. I though two would be so easy! Of course Trixie was the devil child slipping through the wood baby gate, then chewing through the small slat new plastic baby gate. I ended up using a big piece of wood behind the baby gate. Trixie was so difficult - hyper, picky, attention seeking and at her worst became aggressive (awful fights) to Roxy who wouldn't even defend herself. We tried training, separation, spaying - and finally my blessed Vet called her professor from Cornell who said they were having some success with a new drug on the market...PROZAC! (this was 20 yrs ago and not approved for dogs at that point) I was ready to try anything. Prozac was about $150 a script back then and 4 weeks later the bottle was almost empty (liquid) and I was discouraged because nothing had changed. I decided I would go another week, wean her off and wasn't going to refill. Suddenly 3 or 4 days bam. The growling stopped, she stopped trying to attack...and it worked! I guess it took a good month to kick in. We lived peacefully from then on.

Roxy had her own share of health issues from seizures as well. Both were on these heavy meds for about 2 years and were also on prescription food. I had read Billingsworth book on raw diets and decided to try that to see if I could up their nutrition. We did this another year and never another seizure and Trixie was so even. With the ok from m Vet, I decided to wean them both off these meds and see where they were at. Neither needed the meds any longer so I dont know if the Prozac got her out of that mindset or she was acting out because of poor nutrition but I really think the Hills Prescription diet played a part. Long story short is first off

I know your little twirp is a troublemaker at 4 months but for me the trouble makers make the best dogs. Maybe it was because of all the extra attention I had to give Trixie but I also think they have the most personality - our bond was the strongest I ever had with a dog and I cry about losing her from Cushing's to this day. One day you will laugh at her antics as a pup.

My second point is if anyone is having behavioral issues - start with a diet change. I think it is everything and I am a strong believer in raw but if you are not - even do your research on another non raw quality food. Even if you think your current food is quality - I would change it up anyway. These days I use a commercial frozen raw (stella and chewies but there are many) and both girls knock wood are in good shape and much healthier then my others who did not start raw until everything else was falling apart.

No rigging up things with toddlers. If he climbs up & falls on in between some of the ideas I've read it could be very horrible. Dogs don't need to be treated like children. Treat him like a puppy. He should be left in a puppy pen that is big enough to potty away from his bed/play area. Safety. He just became old enough to leave his mom. He needs a bed in there that he can nest in. He will most likely tear up a potty pad. But maybe he's a big boy & doing potty very well? If you're using washables, better! The pull out tray is easy to clean. Put a thin piece of fabric such as a pillow case(s) under the tray to keep it in place firmly. Put the coops low so if he climpbs on them it won't matter. Over done. The midwest brand is better. But this will do it just fine.

The wire crate is what I use for Gunnar. He will be 1-1/2yo this month.
He was escaping from the ex-pen at 4 months and we still don't know how! My son would call and say Houdini is out again. We put boxes around it cause we could tell he was pushing it around.
I have 2 dishes that screw onto the crate, one for water and one for food. I use cloth pee pad and put toys and a soft bed or small blanket in there.

We had Tessie in the laundry room with a baby gate when we first got her, she chewed on the plastic, then climb over it by using the bar that locks the gate. My husband broke the gate trying to make it fit tighter so he propped it up with 2-40lb containers. Tessie learned to move them to escape. We let her start living in the kitchen/sunroom so we could be with her and she would be safe. We used large suitcases to keep her confined. When we got Hobbes 6 weeks later, his breeder had metal gates with a walk thru opening (for us), they are tall enough and sections close enough so none of the dogs can get out or jump over. They can be adjusted to fit all size doors. It has been fantastic. Our cat can jump over it to get away from the dogs. You can buy them at Petsmart.
