Airline Approved in Cabin Carrier Westjet has specific size regulations for in cabin pet carriers. I would like to get a wheeled carrier for my Yorkie - Mr. Darcy. My question is if it is OK to turn the carrier on it's back on the airplane, so it meets to height regulations of 8-1/2 inches - the length and width are OK. I have a regular pet carrier, which I have used (he just turned a year old) once, and he can sleep fine lying down, and he can turn around, but it is a little cramped for him to fully stand......

| I owned the coach carrier, the louis vuitton carrier and the regular delta carrier that petco sells. Levi is a bigger yorkie around 7/8 pounds and "he" liked the delta one the best, where I preferred the designer one. So he won that round. He goes to Florida every year in it and has no problems. | Airline Carrier Thanks, Mr. Darcy is also 7/8 pounds, so the smaller Sherpa has him squished when he stands up, as I bought it when I adopted him last New Years at 12 weeks old. I will look at the Petco one- any chance there is one with wheels for a Yorkie his size. We usually fly Westjet, and they have a 8-1/2 inch height restriction, which they don't adhere strictly to - the carrier I used for my Yorkie I lost last Christmas (still struggling with THAT loss - she was my baby for 15-1/2 years - however Mr. Darcy has now filled that space in my heart!) is 11 inches high. |

Ok...mine measures 11" tall by 9" wide by 18" long. He can't really move around much...but he usually just sleeps. It also says Delta right on the carrier. It also has a little sheep skin liner in the bottom and he likes that. I have seen Sherpa carriers before that have wheels. They do get heavy carrying them through the airport! Hope this helps....Rose

Airline Carrier I did look online at Petco - didn't see one with Delta on it. Did you buy it at the store? You are right - he sleeps the flight down to Florida. In January my husband travels with us, but in November I went alone and had to carry Mr. Darcy - wore my laptop in a backpack on my back and carried a rather large purse!...that's why I thought a wheeled one - however with the new security rules perhaps I won't have to worry about carryons! Thanks for your help!

Hi I had used the medium sherpa bag for my Jessie. My Jessie had to be put to sleep in February. She was almost 15 years old, so I know how you feel. Jessie was big-almost 15 pounds and the carrier was fine for her. However, I now have Jamie who I expect to be about 8-9 pounds fully grown, but she is quite tall and long. I plan to use the same carrier. It is the basically same dimensions as the Delta Sherpa. You can see all the products including the Delta bag on the sherpa website. www.sherpapet.com I've copied the dimensions of the bags from the website: Small - for pets up to 8 lbs. Model #55534 Dim: 15" D x 10" W x 8.5" H, Weight: 2.72 lbs. Medium - for pets up to 16 lbs. Model #55234 Dim: 18" D x 11" W x 10.5" H, Weight: 2.87 lbs. Large - for pets up to 22 lbs. Model #55514 Dim: 20" D x 11.75" W x 11.5" H, Weight: 3.01 lbs They also show a wheeled version online. I mostly flew Delta and they had no problem with the carrier's height since it could be swished down under the seat. My Jessie loved to fly and regularly flew for up to 7 hours with no problem. Most people never knew there was a pet on the flight. Hopefully I will have the same luck with Jamie. She is only 5 months now so I'm giving her a little time to calm down before we attempt a flight. Best of luck!

Airline Carrier I did fly home from Florida with Mr. Darcy last January, and went down again in November and he was fine, slept too, but I have a terrible problem with him vomitting in the car. Sometimes he doesn't, and sometimes he is sick after I have parked and got out of the car????? He starts salvitating, then his little ears go down, and he gives me a look as if to say "you know I get sick" - but when I get his leash he wants to go...I tried gravol (dramimine) didn't help - do you know of anything else? I take puppy pads, and lots of towels and wet towels in ziplocs!
