| Suggestion on Pet Stairs and/or Ramps I need suggestions on a good set of stairs or a ramp for the little ones to use to get on and off the couch. I've searched but not really found any specific recommendations on them here. Anybody have a particular set that they love or that I should stay away from? The thought of stairs scare me because they all seem steep and I just keep imagining a tumble going down them which makes me want to go with a ramp. Do you have this problem?... and would it be better to use a ramp instead? My little ones are now 16w old if that makes a difference.

| In my home in Massachusetts we just have a little step (its basically a little kitchen stool that my husband carpeted so he wont slip) that Pasquale uses to get onto the bed....he refuses to use it going down..he loves to jump. I try explaining to him that he's going to ruin his knees...but he wont listen. I'll be curious as to what steps people suggest cause i'm looking for a set of steps for my home in Florida....i dont know why...but they make the beds so much higher down there! Honestly i have to get on my tippy toes to get on that bed...and slide down getting off of it. Pasquale knows to wait for me to pick him up down there though.

| Stairs My opinon is the best quality stairs are from Bed Bath and Beyond. Plastic with carpeting covering the steps and they are pretty sturdy, the best thing is that they fold easily for storage. They're about $39.95 but if you have one of they're 20% coupons they're not so bad. |

| I happened to find a set of pet stairs at a Giant Tiger store (which is a local discount store). I have seen them in PetSmart too. The ones I bought are basically a hard plastic frame with a faux lambskin cover. They were $20 and work just fine. I got them when Spike was six months old. It took him a while to figure out exactly what they were for, but now he uses them all the time. I got them because he would drive me nuts sitting by the couch and whining to come up. Now, he can come and sit with me whenever he likes without bugging me! Also, rather than having him jumping down, he uses the stairs, which cuts down on the amount of impacts his hips and legs take in an average day. He's never fallen down the stairs, and I would say they are about three to four inches heigh. No matter what you choose to do, make sure the ramp or stairs are reasonably wide, not just a wood plank, for example. Spike tears up those stairs and if they were too narrow, he'd probably take quite a few falls, even though he's tiny! We took an aagility class where the dogs had to walk up a ramp, across a beam, and down the ramp on the other side. One day, one of the dogs took a fall while going up the ramp. She wasn't hurt, but her owner couldn't get her to use the ramp after that because the fall scared her. |

| We have several of the steps around here. They are the faux sheepskin covered hard plastic kind but they are rigid -- don't fold up. Archie mostly ignores them -- he just jumps. Willie, who has much shorter legs than his brother, uses them all the time. For Willie it's use the stairs or demand someone pick him up. I think the question of steps vs ramp might depend on your dog comfort level with either and sometimes the available space. Seems to me that a ramp might require more floor space to avoid being too steep. |

| Thank you to everyone. My fear of the steps is that they look kind of steep and I just imagine them tumbling when going down. Petco has set of steps Solvit PupSTEP + Plus Pet Stairs at PETCO that I'm considering but it's an online exclusive so I can't see it in the store firsthand. I have never had pet steps before. Since my girls are still young I would like for them to get used to using steps as opposed to jumping. Right now we use the 'pick me up' on demand method when they let me know they want up. If they look like they are about to jump down I put them down before they can make a move to actually do it. I guess maybe I could try steps to take up less room for now but if they tend to be tumblers I could switch to a ramp. I hadn't even considered the width could be an issue so I will factor that in now as well. Thank you again everyone.

| I'm not sure if its at all what you are looking for, but we got our puppy stairs form a man in eBay. He makes them himself. They are wooden, but covered with really cut carpeting (with puppy paw prints). These are the steps we purchased TopDogSteps. The steps are really wide, so I don't think they would fall off. Oliver also found another use for them |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I use the scamp ramps. They come in several sizes. I have one by my bed and my dtrs. They use a footstool to get on the couch.
