| Harness... Roman or Step In? See link for picture LupineŽ - Small Dog Products Is it better for the leash to be at the back of the harness or in the middle? I also use Puppia but it was a bit hot using them last summer. I wanted to try something else this summer. Also, when Max starts pulling because he gets excited, the Puppia makes him start coughing (panting throat sounds).

| I'm not sure which harness is best, but I love Lupine products. I have been looking for something new, too. I think I'll try the step-in

| In my experience the step in is the better harness type -- if they pull they don't choke as it does not go anywhere around the neck |

| Step in harness. There are harnesses called "choke free". See my album for what they look like. There were some posts a couple of months ago about the choke free harnesses, YT member name "Wookie" had info/selling them. Try a search. Although the boyz are fairly big at 11 and 13.5 lbs I still prefer the choke free style.

| I see the upside to the step-in harnesses but it doesn't matter how tight I make them on Ellie, she pokes her elbow through one of the straps and it is just all wrong for her. The Roman style looks like the kind usually sold in pet stores and that's what we use. It works best for her so far.

I thought it looked like the kind usually sold at pet stores. It says the Roman one is designed to protect the trachea. It looks like both of them would not pull on the trachea though.

| So many people like the step-ins. I'm sure they work great for some dogs and I would like it if Ellie was one of them but if she can get her legs out of it, it obviously isn't safe for her, so we can't use them. The same goes for the Easy Walk by Premiere.

| We prefer the roman style. I feel like with this style, the weight is distributed better against the harness. Franklin LOVES to pull and I am more comfortable walking him in this harness. Of course I have bigger dogs so that is something to consider.. a step-in style would likely be more successful if our dogs were smaller. Maggie can easily back up and slide out of her step-in and putting the step-in on Franklin is the biggest hassle. Roman all the way!

I thought Ellie was the only one who tries to slide out. I'm glad we're not alone. Everyone says how great step-ins are and I thought I must be crazy for not liking them. She is 6 1/2 pounds. A larger dog in our family (50 or so pounds) has a step-in and does great with it.
