Funny you say that because before I got my babies I always thought that when you micro chip it would allow them to track the animals...LOL DUH!
I think that is a great idea! They do it for vehicles why not for animals. I'd be more than happy to pay that monthly fee.

I am simply shocked for no better words... appalled that we pay for a microchip and it can be changed without some kind of proof of purchase of a dog... I was positive a chip was that.. a chip with the original owners name..

I am stunned at the court system also.. I guess I would have landed in jail for sure....normally one does not call the company to report a lost dog.. I did not think anyways.. I have always reported to humane society and to the local animal control... but archie's mom.... go for it.. make yourself rich and us content... anne

Who are the companies that have their names on the chips?
Maybe I will just see if I can contact them and make this suggestion.

Last suggestion I made was to Wonder Bread. I asked why do they
not make Whole Wheat Bread Crumbs since everyone is into WW.
They said they were looking into it

That is great for a dog that got out of the yard and you realize it right

away. It only tracks for 1mi.

With proof, who wouldn't give the dog back to it's original owners? They knew he was someone's dog. Disgusting! They feel less guilty because no one showed up what within 24 hrs or so??

Maybe we should just strap a cell phone to them. They track for MILES...

Ours are micro chipped by Avid.

Both of my dogs have the Avid chip. They need to have several security questions that need to be answered correctly before they change the animals ownership. That would put an end to this problem.

I like the idea of a GPS chip.

That would be my advice. At least that way, they don't have the chip number, they know the dog has been chipped and then they have to go to someone who can scan the dog. That in itself, should be a big deterrent. I just don't understand why it is so easy for some people to do this. While the concept is good, they need to have tighter security for changing ownership.

I actually looked into the technology needed to do dog lo-jack. I want lo-jack on my dogs and thought it would be a great business idea.... but when researching the necessary GPS technology, it appears it is still much to large to implant in a dog

This story stinks! I cannot believe that some dishonest (cheapskates.....buy your own dog!!!) found her dog and are now demanding to keep it!!! Oh my god, I don't know what I would do......I don't even want to think about that! I hope she gets her dog back and these people get what they deserve.....
