My yorkie, Sparky, has 4 double teeth where his baby teeth didn't come out. He is about 8 months old and has already been neutered. I have an appointment for him to have them pulled but was wondering if I should just leave them. I really hate for my little darling to go through that. Does anyone know if it would hurt to leave them or should I go ahead and have them pulled.

Oh, too bad they couldn't have gotten them during his neuter! I'd suggest they be removed bc they're so smashed together - it's a red carpet for plaque and decay.

I'd definately have them pulled. It's my understanding that Yorkies already have a tendancy to have bad teeth and to leave 2 rows of teeth would most definatly cause tooth decay, which in turn causes other infections. I'm sorry - probably not what you wanted to hear...

I'm in the same situation and I dread having to put him under anesthesia again - but I know it's for the best. He was neutered younger than usual because my female has a serious heart murmur and can't be spayed nor risk getting pregnant

I just noticed that my six month old, Rowdy, has double teeth in the back. I also want to post the question about bad breath. I've noticed Rowdy is really stinky!! At first I thought it was his ears, then I realized it was his breath. He eats dry food, Iams Puppy. I have a five year Yorkie, Pixie, and a four year old Westie and their breath is fine. Of course they don't eat the puppy food, but they do eat dry food. What should I do about both problems?

I agree, if they are not out by 6-8 months its best to have them pulled.

Sigh...we are in the same boat...Izzy was spade early 5 mos and now at 8 mos I see double teeth but just on top so we have our appointment 9/24 to have the vet check her out and go from there.

I was so hoping that it wouldn't happen so I wouldn't have to put her under twice and then pay again for tooth removal. Can anyone say Ca-Ching!!!???

We were lucky with our Mia. We waited and waited for all her teeth to come in and the baby's to fall out. Finally at 7 months we had it all done. She only had to have 4 eye teeth and one other (?). None of Max's have fallen out yet, but he's already getting the second row and he's only just over 5 months. Hope he's all done by 7 months so that we can get him neutered. Don't want any of that spraying going on - that's for sure!

My male Yorkie, Samson, had two full sets of teeth. I didn't want him to undergo anaethesia, so waited. His breath was awful with food caught between the sets, so I brushed his teeth daily and gave him plenty of chew sticks. All the extras fell out on their own by the time he was 10 months old. The remaining adult teeth are perfect as is his bite. Good luck.

Leaving them in CAN mess up their bites. All of my dogs had retained a couple of canine teeth. I didn't want them to go through the surgery so I left it alone. They eventually fell out on their own at around 1 year of age. Dallas just lost one this week and his bite is perfect.

Yeah, the smell is gross because food, etc., gets caught in there. Just make sure you're brushing and keeping his mouth clean.

Boy that's encouraging news...I was hoping to wait until January to see how Izzy's teeth go (she'll just be over a year). I want to wait until then if I can since our Vet has January and February as dental months at his clinic with reduced pricing. I, too, am giving Izzy plenty of chew sticks and brushing teeth in the meantime.

That's a good idea. I have appt for Maxwell this Saturday, but I really, really, don't want to have to have him put under -- he's nine months today; but after I read on YT that someone had flossed their yorkie's teeth, I tried it. Maxwell likes the minty flavor and it gets kunk out from his canines that catch everything. My husband thinks I've lost it.

Same boat. Sophie is 8 months old and has both rows top & bottom. I will be having hers taken care of within the month. Her breate is also RETCHED(sp?). I have TRIED to brush her teeth and she just will NOT have it. Any suggestion on how to get THAT done???
