After reading this thread and discussing it with my husband, in addition to some online research, we are concerned enough to try natural / holistic methods to prevent fleas and such. Would anyone who has tips and information please post here so all of us can have an easy place to find healthy treatment and prevention for our furkids? Thanks!!! |

| I am so happy that you started this thread. After reading the info on the original thread, I started doing some research, then went to my local feed store looking for alternatives. I found a spray made by a company called "Natural Chemical Inc.". They have a product called "De Flea", and this is what the label reads: ""De Flea works using a different mode of action than pyrethrin based pesticides to kill fleas, ticks, lice and mites. It can be used during animal worming, and on very young and nursing animals." Here is their website: http://naturalchemistry.com/pet-products Has anyone else heard of this product? | A very small amount of garlic in their food or garlic tabs for dogs...Also, sprinkle nutritional yeast on their food. Dogs love the taste of this and it's good for them. Use Minksheen shampoo or a similar shampoo with natural insect repellant when you know they're going to be outside a lot, and spray them down with some natural insect repellant like rosemary and lemon seeped in hot water for 15 hours, then placed in a glass jar. Put in a spray bottle as needed and spray them before they go out. This will help keep mosquitoes, fleas, and other insects away from them.

| I read on a thread here that tea tree oil or lavender in shampoo works for fleas. I've been using tea tree oil in their shampoo and they've never had any problem with fleas

| Quote: I actually saw that site, but found some "natural" remedies there incorporated herbs from CHINA. Considering what has happened with Chinese imports with everything from Pet Food to little children's toys, I am VERY wary of using anything that comes from that country. Come to think of it, the product I recommended above, how would one check if ingredients come from China? Are they required to list them ALL? | |

| The Brewers Yeast and Garlic - is that in powder form and is it a formula that is specifically for dogs?? The Minksheen I think is a really great product, although I know that some people don't like the smell. |

| You can just buy either nutritional yeast or brewer's yeast for people at a health food store and regular garlic. The yeast is just flakes. If you don't want to give regular garlic, you can buy garlic tabs for dogs online, but the nutritional yeast is definitely for humans
