| Overweight Yorkie? Hello all, I have a yorkie and she is small in size but lately she is like a little piglet her belly is round and fat...and I did the rib test and dont feel her ribs.. I cook boiled chicken for her but she also eats science diet crunchies. Can anyone recommend a way to trim her down some? she needs to lose about two to three pounds... She is a very picky eater...she does NOT like dog food... when she was a baby I used to have to force feed her because she was so sick. Anyways, I like cooking for her but I would like to make sure I am feeding her the correct amount of food and healthy. Can anyone please advise me on this? Thank you! Kim |

| Add some green beans to her diet -- they fill up the tummy so they don't feel the need to eat so much. |

| Green Beans hmmmm She likes them raw...is that a bad thing? and how many is too many? She breathes so heavy which is really concerning me lately... I would like to nip this in the bud before she gets heavier... tonight I went to the pet store and they gave me a bunch of samples for overweight/senior dogs Punkin is only 2. I put a little bit of the crunchies down to see if she would eat them...she nibbled but im not sure yet if she likes them. I am also unsure if I should feed her snacks...I give her the dried Jerky chicken but I cut it up in little tiny pieces and she gets two. I used to give her a strip but she was so greedy she was swallowing big chunks and almost choked. Scared the Poo outta me... I usually boil chicken for her and giving her less then a cup...is that to much do you think? I remove all the skin... she does not like rice only vegetables but I was unsure if those were bad for her after a while (constipation or diarrhea) any help would be great! I have never had such a finicky dog that wont eat dog food! I have given her the same food for three days in a row and she refuses to eat it!! Also, does anyone know of a good vitamin...in liquid form she wont eat those either...I cant tell you how much money I have spent on this stuff..MY bf works for the phone company and the homeless dogs he sees on his work route get fed very well! |

| I'd cut out the treats and beef up the veggies.

| Feed only 1/4 cup of food twice daily if you home cook. Mix cooked lamb with steamed broccoli and brown rice. Stop with all the snacks for about a week, then only give maybe a little plain yogurt or cored and peeled diced apples. |

| I had a little porker too. But see about getting a medi-cal type dog food from your vet and mix it with chicken. The cans can range from $2-4 each. When Toby got fat we did that and he trimmed down pretty good. If its mixed they have no choice but to pick through it but in the process a lot of the dog food is eaten. I know canned food is messy but it works. |

i agree, you need to cut out all the snacks if you want to trim her down. Also she really only needs 1/2c of food a day, if that.

| I just may have the porkiest of them all. Snuggles is 15 lbs and im pretty sure she should be about 12. Its a workout picking her her, but Her body is solid. She looks like a lil pitbull..lol. We give fruits and veggies as snack every other day. and 1/4 a cup of wet canidae 2x a day. no grazing for her and she runs like a speeding bullet.
