| is this normal? It seems that Paddington must always have some sort of low lying infection going on in his ears. I am currently using Epi-Otic which is supposed to have spherulites that allow the cleaner to keep releasing long after application. It was recommended by my vet last time his ears got infected. It actually seems to work really well if I am consistant with it. But if I forget to do the ear cleaning ritual that he hates for a day or two the next time I clean them there is tons of brown goop in his ears. The last time the vet gave him a stronger antibiotic that was hopefully going to lessen the chances of him getting another infection. But it seems like cleaning is only keeping the little bacteria at bay for a little while and as soon as i don't clean they run rampant. I have no problem cleaning his ears everyday but I don't want to be just surpressing something thats already there. Is it true that any yellow or brown stuff in the ear means infection, or are they supposed to have some wax like we do? He doesn't really scratch his ears or rub his head on the floor anymore even when there is goop(unless ive just cleaned them and put all the liquid in his ears...then he goes nuts lol) ALSO....is there any good way to actually keep cotton balls in his ears during a bath/swimming. I tried putting em in but they just fall right out as soon as he shakes his head. I haven't seen any doggy ear-plugs in the stores either lol. If anyone knows I'd appreciate any advice! Thanks! | ears Teri Shumsky ( Vassar Square) told me many eyars ago to use Flowers of Sulphur powder to keep the ears dry. I put it in a hair dye plastic bottle and dust the insides of my grooming clients dogs with problems...you do not clog the canal of course, but gentle poofs...or you can dip a q-tip in the powder and clean the canal...I have seen chronic infections clear up in a matter of two and never return with weekly dustings. Allergies can cause chronic infections...but if the dogs ears smell clean, no scratching or head shaking..and a cotton ball cleaning only results in a bit of dirt, then it sounds okay...clumps of debris is not good and needs atention. Too many antibotic's can backfire and cause yeast infections to grow... |
