Congratulations! I bet Layla will love it. I totally understand that some people cannot deal with preparing their own raw. I fed a premade for a while before taking the plunge. Keep us updated

Good luck with that. We tried the Nature's Variety as well as "regular" raw here. It is a great way to feed, unfortunately for us, Chloe would not eat it regularly, and wanted to let it sit out, and you can't do that with raw. I know lots of others on here feed it and their doggies wolf it down in 2.5 seconds!! Go to the website and print out the b1g1 free coupon! Might as well save some money on it!

Lacy has been eating Nature's Variety medallions for over a year now and has done great on it. Switching to raw is not like changing kibbles - you don't do it gradually. All the research I read said to just switch cold turkey. You can't mix kibble and raw or she'll get sick. Lacy had no problems with the switch at all. I agree that mixing raw yourself is the best way to go if you know what you're doing, but it's hard enough for me to plan what to eat for myself LOL so the prepared raw is so much easier for me. Raw is 95% raw meat, bones and organs (in appropriate ratios) and 5% fruits and veggies (although some say you don't need fruit but I figure it doesn't hurt). I give Lacy pieces of raw chicken if I'm cutting it up and I've given her raw chicken necks. I have no problem giving her raw meat. She doesn't get messy from eating the medallions so I dont' wash her face after she eats, and yes she still gives me kisses. I don't normally get kisses though right after she eats. We wait a little while...

CONGRATULATIONS!! I have thought about going raw cause of all the recalls but i don't know enough info on it, what they eat, etc. I also don't like to cook much, not even for myself lol so dry food is much easier to feed and i give them veggies, white chicken meat, fruit as snacks. I would like to know more info on it though. My bf is the chef in our relationship and he said he wants to raw feed them so if he's up to it than yah!

But I know going raw is an awesome way to feed dogs!! It's very beneficial for most dogs
Those of you that feed raw, do you have to clean their faces after they eat? Do they still give you kisses?
Well firstly all meat should be frozen before feeding, that helps with bacteria. Secondly a normal healthy dog has the digestive enzymes in their stomach to deal with e.coli and salmonella etc. I am in touch with people who have been feeding raw for over 20 years, including many fosters and rescues who have fed raw to hundreds if not thousands of dogs and have never known 1 dog to fall ill from raw feeding. However I have known several dogs to pick up salmonella or e.coli from kibble. I also feed live yogurt 2-4 times a week as it contains fantastic good bacteria to give them a little helping hand. When they are sick or convalescent a feed a little every day. I clean their faces after most meals and yes they can still give me kisses.

Question

Oh and doesnt the dogs body temperature kill most harmful bacteria when it come to issing? Hence the saying a dogs mouth is cleaner than a humans, is that true??

And with RAW feeding do you still offer kibble to graze on?? Diggy is Hypo so Id be scared not having something there for him to eat at all times....

you cannot feed kibble and raw at the same time because kibble takes longer to digest in their system then raw food. if they are both in the system at the same time problems can occur. raw takes 4-6 hours to digest. kibble takes 12-24 hours.

i feed morgan in the morning and at night. i leave nothing with her while i'm at work. you can feed three times a day to avoid any episodes.

Morgan is 4lbs and she gets 2-3oz a day. Each medallion is 1oz. so she either gets two in the morning and one at night or one in the am and one in the pm. if you go here http://www.naturesvariety.com/ifc.la...57D6IxN37B23F3 on their site it tells you how much you should be feeding depending on their weight and activity level.

also before you go, get this coupon http://www.naturesvariety.com/tryit/index2.lasso fill it out and they'll give you a buy one get one coupon. its great.

Lacy eats twice a day. She's 7lbs and eats 4 oz a day. I would not leave kibble out for grazing. I'd just feed smaller meals more often if she had hypoglycemia problems.

Yep thats right you should not feed kibble at the same time as it means the raw gets stuck behind the kibble in the digestive system, which can cause alot of problems and discomfort for the dog. I feed twice a day but if you are worried then you could even feed 3-4 times daily.

As far as how much, I would start with the guidelines and then you can just adjust the amount as needed as different dogs have different activity and metabolism levels.

It's killing me that I had to stop.

Maybe...one day, we can go that route again.

Best of luck.

I do believe Raw it the best.

However, I am not a fan of NV. There are BETTER brands out there, companies that really only specialize in Raw. Ex: Bravo and Aunt Jeni's

Once you try one of those brands, you'll understand why I think NV is just a mediocore company.
