| Help! Kibble Strike! Lately, Gracie has decided not to eat her Kibble. She has always loved Merrick Grammy's pot pie. She used to like it wet with warm water, then mixed with a bit of canned food. Then, she liked it mixed with canned food, no water. Now, she licks off the canned food from each bit of kibble and leave the kibble behind. I have tried stirring in cheese, bits of treats, bits of kitty kibble. She picks out all the good stuff, leaves the kibble. She also likes Royal Canin Yorkshire. I have tried alternating that with the Merrick and she does the same thing. I am holding all treats and hand outs until she starts eating better. Any suggestions?

| Yup, I have a suggestion. Give in to her demands and feed her what she wants. Her face is just too cute not to. Sorry, no real suggestions.

| Well if you really want her to eat it then I would suggest putting it down 2-3 times a day and either she eats it or she goes hungry. But...... I understand that it sounds really mean and you woulden't want her to go hungry so I guess maybe you could just experiment with different high quality kibbles and perhaps wet foods? I struggeld with this with Indy, she was so so fussy but fortunatly since switching to raw, she gobbles up every scrap. |

| I always have to add a little something to Penny's kibble or she won't eat it either. I try to smear it all over the kibble, so she has to eat her kibble to get the goodies.

| HAHA!! She sounds like Tobey's twin! Tobey ate merricks puppy plate dry food and would make a complete mess picking out only the bits of fruits and veges and leaving all the kibbles behind, so i resorted to sorting out just kibble peices to put in his bowl until the bag was gone. then i switched him to royal canin last week but now i think he is allergic to wheat in it, so i am switching him to Artemis. Now he has no choice but to eat the kibbles or starve. they can be such stinkers!! i have spent the last 7 months trying to mix things in with his kibbles and wet food only to get offended when he walks over, sniffs it, and walks away how picky! but he is so skinny i just want him to eat period, you know? good luck! i have no suggestions other than to only give her the option of plain ole kibbles.

| It seems so mean to only let her have kibble or starve! I am such a pansy! Thanks for your suggestions! This is so frustrating! I guess it is just like with a skin kid. "Eat it or go hungry". When my mom did that to me, I went hungry if it was something I really hated.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I agree with the 'eat or go hungry' plan. i did this with morgan when she was on kibble. Now that she's on raw she gobbles her food up and i never have to do anything else to it or her to get her to eat

| Coincidence or cure? Well, Gracie ate her kibble tonight. I tried giving her the food in a small, deep bowl, like a people fruit bowl. There was not enough room for her to sort through the kibble to get to the canned food. She had to eat her way through it! She only left a few kibbles, was probably full. Time will tell if this is the fix or if she was just darn hungry after a few days of picking.

| Diddy is the same way! He is 6 months old. He used to love his Canidae kibble and now he won't touch it. He loves wet food, so I have to mix it in with his kibble. He does spit out the dry after he gets the wet food off of it. What a stinker! I always have a big trail of dry kibble on my kitchen floor. I don't know if he is like this because he lost a few teeth and is having trouble chewing hard food or what. I don't know what to do except try different things. Don't you just love these little picky eaters!

| I too am having issues with this with Bella. It seems she will not eat her kibble if there is not something added to it. I feel bad if I followed the "eat or go hungry' plan, especially seeing that she gets sick in the morning if she has an empty tummy. She seems to be really liking non-fat plain yogurt right now, but my question is what is the max that I could feed her that on a daily basis? |

| Gracie is 14 months, not teething and her teeth are fine. Last night and this morning she ate every bite using the small deep bowl. Tonight she only ate half, but she did not pick out the kibble. I think there is something to the size and shape of the bowl, not letting her have enough room to sort and peck.

It is normal. I have the same problem with Chelsea. She is the same age. From time to time she stops eating. I just take it easy and will give the SAME food that she has been eating on the next meal time and limit the treats. So, if she does not eat in the morning I will take the food after 10 minutes and give her again for dinner (if it is wet food I make a new one but the same food). Do not change the food or give something different, this will make her more picky. The other thing I notice that if you change the food, try to change it gradually. If she has been eating well and you want to change the food, try to mixed gradually. Abrupt change of food will not only cause stomach upset but make her picky. I have been going through her hunger strike many times. As long as she is pooping, peeing and looks healthy I will not worry. She will eat eventually. Sometimes we also forget that we probably over feeding her with treats. My take "ooh, probably she will eat tomorrow" I also give her a little bit nutrical if she stops eating or have less appetide. It seems help her to stimulate her appetide. | |
