| we got fleas i feel bad cause this is the first time i have ever had an issue with fleas. i really don't know what to do. so i went an got some shampoo. (before i read about Dawn what else should i do? i washed their bedding. i shaved Troy cause i saw them on her. i didn't see any on Walker yesterday but bathed him in the shampoo for ticks & fleas anyway. i didn't shave him. so today i looked at Troy and i saw more on her. i bathed her again. looked Walker and saw some on him. so i'm about give him one. i have him away from Troy so they can't get on her again. is it to late to treat for fleas like with frontline? is there anything else that i need to do???

| Well there are a few treatments out there, I always use frontline spot on (only good one we have in the UK really). It kills adult fleas as well as the babies and eggs so it should still be effective. |

| If you have fleas on your dogs they are also in your carpet and furniture. You should also treat your house if you keep seeing them. You can buy foggers, some do not work as well as others. Or call an exterminator.

| yeah i thought about that. thing is they have been confined to the kitchen because they kept having accidents. so i told the kids that if they wanted to play with them they would have to saty in the kitchen...and since they didn't want to be int he kitchen they didn't play with them unless they were outside. but i will treat the house anyway just in case. thanks!

| I use Revolution on Charlie, bath him once a week (not with flea shampoo) and let the foam sit on his coat for 5-10 which kills the fleas. Always place a ring of shampoo around their neck first which stops the fleas from running up to their head. Fleas are nasty and the same as worms, but part of a dog's life. Do you have a flea comb? I would suggest combing your pups every day to "search & destroy" the buggers. Definitely keep them off the carpet until the infestation is under control. Don't bother with toxic cleaners on the floor, just general soap & water will pick up the eggs. Good luck. Warmly, Deborah

| You can try putting seven dust on their coat. It's not toxic to them, and you can also spread it where they go to the bathroom. It works well for us.

| it's a bad flea year. we had fleas for the first time. i bombed the house with flea bombs. (regular bombs don't kill eggs) and sprayed the yard. i gave him a flea bath and fresh k9advantix. he's also on brewers yeast and garlic tabs. and i've been spraying his harness with neem spray. no more fleas. thank -goodness. ****** I did call the 800 number on the k9 advantix box because i was pissed that it didn't work. he's been on it for 4 years and no problems. the lady sent me a FREE 6 month supply! i was so impressed with their good customer service. she told me it's an unusually bad flea year and gave me tips to keep them away. (i was totally freaking out. lol..) ****** feel free to pm me. I know how stressul fleas can be.

| I used a product call Bug Stop for the house. The animals can't be on it till it is all dry. It's not a natural remedy, but it works really well and say it keeps some bugs away for 6 months! (which I found to be true) Yeah, all their bedding has to be treated and the house... everything cause those stinkers get everywhere. |

| I use advantage and bathe Teddy every week using a few drops of lavender oil which I purchased from a health food store, in his rinse water. If there are any fleas on him they usually fall off in the water or I get them out with a flea comb. It makes him smell good and also relaxes him. The advantage didn't seem to be working at first but now after several months seems to be doing better. He seemed to be picking fleas up when he went on walks with my hubby. I keep a spray in the fridge and spritz him with it before he goes out and when he comes back in. I make the spray using 1 cup water- 4 drops lavender oil, 4 drops tea tree oil and 3 or 4 drops of geranium oil to which I add 1 drop of Nature's Sunshine concentrate. This helps keep mosquitos and other insects off him too. I usually put a few drops of geranium oil on his collar every 3-4 days also. I use geranium oil sparingly as it is strong but everyone really likes the way he smells! I have used this spray on myself and it works for me.

unless you do the house and yard they will keep coming back. bathing only gets what is on them. put them back on the floor they jump back on. you must have a plan... start by calling the vet and getting frontline so when the dogs get bite they fall off and die. the house. you must treat the house. the bedding and the yard all at the same time. we get vet recomended only. but this is very important to get it now. or you can be infested. and after you do the treatment you MUST do it all over in a couple of weeks. so get info from vet. and your carpet people your linen. and your beds. shaving will not help if they are in the house & yard. they just get back on. we have a co. flie busters. but watch out for watch chemacials you use around your babys. jg Last edited by sassytooyou; 08-19-2007 at 02:22 PM. | |
