| my yorkie is 11 lbs Hey everyone! I had a question. I got my yorkie when he was 3 lbs. hes now 9 months and 11 lbs and the person who i got him from, did not promise that he was going to be small, and im okay with that, i love my baby just the way he is. But his doctor said that he is 2 lbs overweight. I tend to feed him some human food because he barks and whimpers at us when we are eating. IM definitely going to stop that. Is there anything else i should do to get him back into shape? and does anyone else have a yorkie around that big? pictures please? |

| Buddy is 15lbs but all muscle! My vet thought he should be 11lbs but when he was sick awhile ago and lost acouple of lbs. he looked terrible so I am not worried about it. I would think it depends on your Yorkie's structure. Buddy is solid, no fat on him at all! Do you walk him, that's an excellant way to keep him in shape. Also watch the treats and human food is not good for them. No fatty foods of course. Chicken breast and veggies Bud get's with breakfast and dinner. Plain yogart and some fruits are ok. Do not give him grapes, onion, garlic or raisins. All are toxic to a yorkie. You can find more pics of Buddy in the photo gallery. They also make all natural treats low in fat, which I do buy. Old Mother Hubbard, Paul Newman and Natural Balance all make them and they are all good brands. Have fun and enjoy your "Teapot". A term YT uses for the bigger ones. Do a search here and you'll see many more |

| I was going to suggest walking, running around your yard, and if you have a pool it's an excellent way for them to shape up.

| I have a 12lb yorkie but he is not overweight, he's just solid and muscular. If he feels 'flabby' then you may have a problem, if thats the case then under the guidence of your vet you may want to decrease his food by around 10% and up his excersise. |

| hi there! I had a f Yorkie who was 14 lbs. I put her on the dog food "Fit n' Trim" and she lost down to 7 lbs over 6 months. I think it is by Purina, but it works! People food is ok, just not much of it, and not often. When they are bigger, they can be more independent, and twice as much to show off! |

| Keep him heathy!!! Use a good dog food. Many have fillers which do nothing but add on calories. Although I do not use it, my vet always recommends Science Diet (there is one for dogs who need to watch their weight). Only feed what is recommended. Do NOT overfeed. It helps to give food 3-4 times a day, instead of 1 or 2. (Just read what the daily recommendation is and split it 3-4 times). Your dog doesn't get as hungry. Also, no snacks!!!! We cut out the snacks when Shelby needed to loose weight and it helped tremendously. EXERCISE!!!! It really does help.... every bit counts!! We like to play ball in the hallway when we can't go outside to play. Shelby & Seymour are both Teapots, too. But I still think it is important to keep them fit and healthy. I don't think it is a good idea to have a malnourished Yorkie (by underfeeding them) just cause they are a little on the bigger size. That would be cruel! Good Luck on keeping your Teapot happy & healthy!!!
