Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I personally think 3 stars isnt enough...Canidea, Innova Evo, chicken Soup for the puppy lover soul, wellness, Natural Balance are all similar in price to Avo-derm and 5 star foods. Maybe look into those?

| I read on www.dogfoodanalysis.com why it was rated as a three star...It doesn't mention any negative ingredients. It says that the only reason it's in the three star category is because they feel that there's not enough meat content.

| I think it depends which of the Avoderm foods we're looking at...They all contain avocado oil which they say is controversial...And these are the ingredients: Ingredients: Chicken Meal, Brown Rice, Ground Rice, Rice Bran, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbic Acid), Flax Seed, Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, Avocado Oil, Herring Meal, Lecithin, Brewers Dried Yeast, Natural Flavoring, Monosodium Phosphate, Choline Chloride, Rosemary Extract, Sage Extract, Ferrous Sulfate, DL-Alpha Tocopherol Acetate (Source of Vitamin E), Zinc Oxide, Sodium Selenite, Manganous Oxide, Riboflavin Supplement (Source of Vitamin B Complex), Copper Sulfate, Zinc Methionine, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Cobalt Proteinate, Niacin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, D-Biotin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Calcium Iodate, Thiamine Mononitrate (Source of Vitamin B1), Folic Acid, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Bromelain, Papain, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Oryzae Fermentation Product. Guaranteed Analysis: Crude Protein (min) 23% Crude Fat (min) 13% Moisture (max) 10% Crude Fiber (max) 4%

| I would just go with the products you KNOW are good...Either homecooking, or any of the many 4 or 5 star foods from that website... My maltese ate Merricks before we started homecooking, and she like it, and I know it is a high quality food..

| This is what Canidae has listed on their website with respect to Meat vs. Meal: http://www.canidae.com/ingredients/meatvmeal.html Basically, ingredients are listed in order of weight...When just meat like chicken, venison, duck, etc are listed (without the word meal following), it is meat inclusive of water, and water is 70% of the weight. So, Canidae says that chicken meal or whatever kind of meat meal is the meat without the water....Meaning that there's a lot more actual substance than water...The link will help explain a little better.
