| Greenies, Are they Safe? HI All, I have never give my furkids greenies, do you think they are safe? I have read a few post where they are not, Is that because of choking? My sister who just recentley got her first baby boy, age 5mnths is giving him those, she said the breeder recomended them, Ahhhh i wish she would join our site so she could learn as much as i have, I keep asking her to thanks everyone

Therapy Dog Donating Member | I bought some mini Greenies when I first got Izzy two months ago and she loved them, but they played havoc with her beard and was hard to comb her out. When I saw my vet that first week I had her I told him I was giving them to her and was it OK. His response was that it was OK but he wouldn't give to his own dogs since it's like giving our furkids chewing gum, and that's exactly what it feels like when it's in Izzy's beard....sticky and gummy. I'm in the process now of getting her used to brushing her teeth. Hope this helps!

| Supposedly the new formula is better for them. But, keep in mind what works for a large dog many times is very different for these tinies. I believe they are still held together with guar gum which basically is not digestible. It can congeal into a mass and block the intestines. There are lots of other options that are fully edible that are much safer - such as bully sticks and the many variations out there..........

| the new greenies Do to our recent mishap of dog treats/toys, I have been very conscious on looking for safer alternatives. I have also read several posts and have even myself posted warnings about greenies. However I came across this article about how they have been reformulated and are now a lot safer. http://www.yorkieangelpatrol.com/greenie.doc

| I personally don't give them to my dogs. I used to, until Emma had a couple SCARY incidents almost choking on hard chewy treats like those. It was a bummer too, because I had bought a HUGE bag of them...in the trash they went! It's not worth the risk!
