| I give Cookie a greenie or nylabone almost every night. Sometimes I letter her finish them and sometimes I take it away if I feel she's had too much too quick. She never finishes the nylabone in one day (she gets the big ones). That usually lasts her a few days - a week. She eats the greenies a lot quicker. So on average, Cookie probably finishes 3 greenies per week. I hope this isn't bad for her health. She is not over weight and is healthy as ever...but what do I know? |

| I stay away from Greenies because I had a bad experience with them. Missy's vet recomended greenies and told me it would be a nice treat to give her one every Friday, he said he's been doing that with his yorkie for years and its become a Friday night treat his yorkie looks forward to. So I went out and got the little greenies. Missy LOVED it!! I was so happy to of found a treat she liked so much and thought would be good for her teething. I started giving her the greenies every Friday night, I would only let her chew on it for about 5 - 10 min or so then take it away and put it up till the next day. I was always very careful with her and thought they were the greatest, esp. since her vet is the one who reccomended them to me. Well one day she was sitting next to me on the couch and I was watching her eat her greenie and at the same time watching tv, she was right next to me so I knew she would be OK. After a few minutes of watching TV, I looked over at her and she was not eating the greenie and her ears were flat down. I picked her up and she was curled in a ball and didnt move, she was stiff and looked like she was in pain, I looked at her stomach and it was bloated so fat. If she was breathing I sure couldnt tell. I was so scared I thought she was gonna die. Only a few minutes passed but it seemed like 30 minutes, I was about to freak out and didnt know what to do I then all a sudden she started throwing up greenies, and a BIG piece came out... She some how managed to get a chunk off and swollowed it whole and it was blocking something inside her, thank god she threw it up! I called the ER Vet and they said since she threw it up and the bloating went away she should be fine as long as she didnt appear in pain, so the next day I took her to her regular vet and told him the story and he said "oh yeah, they can be very dangerous" That night I thought she was gonna die on me I am not kidding, it was terrible. I am sure she would love to have a greenie but to me its just not worth it. I did read greenie warnings on the internet and on here but since my Vet reccomended them I thought they must be fine. She loved them and I wanted to please her, I thought they were a great treat. Then once I had the scare of my life he tells me "oh yes they can be dangerous" Sometimes we dont head the warnings from others becuase they seem to work out just fine for us, but there is always "what if" and that's what I should of thought about. A lesson learned, thankfully my girl is OK, but I worry about others and hope it doesnt happen to anyone else.

| I gave Zack a Greenie once. He wasn't interested in it at all. Puppy intuition?

| I give both of my dogs greenies and the nurtident toothbrush things like greenies and they love them. I do watch them very closely though to make sure that they don't take off too much at once. The very first time they ate them, they had bright green diarrhea, but they have been fine after that. After this though, I will watch them much more closely. Thanks!

| One horror story is usually enough for me, of course a tiny dog can choke on ANYTHING but I prefer not to take any chances. I found these curly tendons things at my boutique, I watched as my 2 chewed them and they could never get off a bite, they just kind of turned to mush but no pieces. This works out well for my 8 lber as well as my 2lber. I just take them away when they get to be about 3 inches long. But no greenies, pig ears, rawhide, bones or even booda bones for us. |

| Thanks for posting this, I have been so afraid to give them another bone after the greenie scare. I've seen the curly tendons at my local PetCo, I will pick one up for my babies todau and give it a try

| I think the problem with the greenies is that dogs who gulp their food swallow chunks of it. i have tried cutting off bite size pieces small enought to go down easily but big enough to chew so as to clean the teeth. there is even the sm. bits version that i have tried also. but in my opinion those are too small for them to actually chew and get any benefit from them. that is when i started cutting my own size for them. Buckeye gets one size and Ahia get another. (customized for them) they love them and i use them as treats. they don't get a lot of greenies as they are expensive.
