| I make it the old fashioned way. If I can find chicken backs I use them. I wash them thoroughly, put them in the crockpot cover with water and let them cook all night. I strain the "juice" pick off the tidbits of white meat and reserve. I cool the broth in the refrigerator so I can completely de-fat it and I have the best chicken broth on the market. Free range drug free chicken ROCKS, but unfortunately it isn't widely available to me. If I can't find chicken backs I use either a whole chicken or chicken breasts and then use the mean for chicken salad. I make ONE MEAN chicken salad |

| I buy organic chicken broth/stock in the box from Traders for $1.99. I agree that boiling the whole chicken or parts of the chicken with bone (not just the boneless, skinless breast) is the way to make broth. But I don't know that you NEED to make your own broth. Are you feeding chicken breast and rice every day? If so, you need to be adding a supplement, veggies or somehow getting vitamins in her. We do it for a treat on nights that we eat chicken, but not every day. I don't boil the chicken for them though. I just cook extra using whatever method (grill, pan) we use.
