I think it was Stedman'sMommy who mentioned that she puts oral care in Steddy and Tatum's water. I too thought that sounded like a good idea and wasn't aware there was anything like that. I'm going to ask her more about it once things calm down for her. Jake hates a toothbrush, so I get the fingertip toothbrushes because he doesn't mind my finger in his mouth, and he chews on it while I brush. It works really well for him. I do it at night when he's sleepy and wants to cuddle, then he goes and gets a drink of water (every single time lol) and then we cuddle together and sleep. I also use Petzlife gel. | |

| I didn't even brush Ellie's teeth until she had to have 9 of them pulled in January. Since she has periodontal disease they have to be brushed everyday and something called OraVet has to be put on them. It is a plaque barrier. The first application of OraVet has to be put on while they are under anesthesia so their teeth can be completely dry. Ellie was going to have to have her teeth cleaned every 6 months but her vet said it doesn't look necessary right now and we can hold off. I personally wouldn't do any dentals if there isn't much built-up because of the anesthetic risk.

| I was just online looking up dental health stuff for my Tucker without even knowing this thread existed...I did a search for Biotene to see what others thought and I think I can offer some info for those of you looking for water additives (that was my initial search and how I found this thread). Biotene Drinking Water Additive - Flavorless and concentrated, this unique product contains a patented enzyme system that effectively inhibits and reduces plaque formation - also removes plaque while antibacterial enzymes inhibit the growth of odor causing microbes, resulting in a fresh breath and healthier mouth - one bottle will last an average size dog 60 days ! I'm thinking of trying it as Tucker won't let me brush for too long and I know I am missing huge areas of his mouth (like in between his teeth).

| Forgot to add, I also found: BreathaLyser Plus - Safe, alcohol-free, drinking water additive - reduces, not just masks bad breath - reduces tartar with daily use - maintains great oral hygiene for both dogs and cats - also contains Zinc for immune stimulant - no brushing required and PlaqueOff All natural algae product that counteracts bad breath and prohibits tartar and plaque build up on your pet's teeth - rich with minerals, trace minerals and amino acids - simply add tiny amount daily to food - one container can last 1 year !

| Hey guys I have a yorkie names Skipper and he is 3 months old. He doesnt have all of his teeth yet, they are stilll growing in. I tried to brush the little bit of teeth that he did have but he was very upset and did not cooperate or like it at all. I would like to know at what age is recommended that I start to brush my yorkies teeth being as though he is three months now and doesnt really have a lot of teeth? Thanks for all of your help. |

| I start introducing a finger wrapped in gauze, dapped with a bit of Vanilla Mint toothpaste as soon as the begin cutting teeth.....the sooner the better. That way they are completely comfortable having someone touching their mouth by the time they go to their forever homes.

| Just read this thread... If you're going to try mouthwash on q-tips, try the Crest Pro Health kind. It doesn't burn like Listerine or Scope does, and it tastes pretty good too!

| My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | What about the dogs who seriouly FREAK out over teeth cleaning? (which mine do) I even have one run under the bed and wont; come out. How much of an effect will petzlife gel have if I at least get it in their mouth with no brushing on the ones who won't let me near them? |
