| Need advice....really unsure! Most of you know I have a new little girl named Fancy. Fancy will be 13 weeks on July 1. Even though I don't know if Fancy will be show quality, I have been attending Conformation classes without her to learn all I can and come home and practice with her. She can't attend until she has had all her shots and the bordatella. The bordatella is the one I'm worried about. I've heard that some end up with kennel cough after the nasal dose. I have puppies here at home, plus my other 3 dogs and don't want them to get anything. What advice can you offer? I'm thinking I should just keep attending the classes and practice at home until all the puppies have gone to their new homes (which won't be until at the earliest August 21). Am I right in this thinking? OR do I have anything to worry about? I can tell you I discussed this with my Vet and he said in all the time that he has been giving the vaccine, none have had a reaction of any kind. Do I worry too much?

| You are right to worry..Please do not use any intra nasal vaccines with yorkies. I have heard from many breeders that they cause a ton of problems. If you must do bordatella it get in the regular vaccine. Good Luck with the classes |

My Lil Man! Donating Member | My baby has had the bordatella twice at this point and we havent had any problems, plus my parents dogs have always had it pretty regularly and they havent had a problem with kennel cough. Our family vet said that its not as contagious as most people try to make it seem and that the whole time he has been a vet he has only seen like 5 or 6 cases. (Let me make note that he is an old vet that still does some things the old fashioned way to save you money instead of doing everything all high tech with huge machines and charging you an arm and a leg and he only does necessary stuff...he wont charge you for unnecessary things like some vets will...like $150 to groom your dog because you have to put a nonrefundable deposit down in case they have to use gas to kinda knock em out to make it easier to trim them.) Goodluck with everything and if I were you I would just go for it. I honestly dont think you have anything to worry about! |

| I would try to avoid the bordatella vaccine if you can. I don't know if it's dangerous or not, but I have been told by reliable sources (vets, trainers) that it is unnecessary. Unfortunately many places require it...

| I am not sure if this will help any but... About 3 weeks ago Roxie got a nasal dose of the Bordatella vaccine. I wanted to get Roxie groomed for the first time and all of the groomers in my area require the Bordatella every 6 months. She received the Bodatella vaccine and a few days later I took her to get groomed at a very nice, clean pet resort & salon, that was highly recommended by a close friend. Needless to say Roxie ended up with Kennel Cough. I am not sure if it was from the nasal dosage or from the groomer |
