Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Nature's Variety Users - cost? For folks using NV's medallions/patties - how much is it costing you? I'm curious about how it compares to homecooking and other feeding methods.

| I buy the 3lb bags medallions (you get about 48 medallions). The rabbit is the most expensive and is about $15.00, the venison is like $13. I think the chicken/turkey is like $11. There is also Beef, Chicken, and Lamb. I feed Lacy 4 medallions a day (alternating venison and rabbit) because she is 7lbs and pretty active so 1 bag lasts me approximately 12days. So I usually spend close to $30 every three weeks.

| We also buy the 3 pound bag...beef or chicken...and they are $11.99 per bag. I use 4 medallions a day between my 2 boyz...they each get 1 for breakfast and 1 for dinner. I was home cooking with some raw added but I wasn't sure they were getting everything they need...with NV I don't have to worry and it's done great things for Jo so I'll stick with it. |

| I usually get the beef or the chicken and it's $10.29 to $10.99 for the 3# bag. I don't give it to mine every day. Maybe 2-4 times a week for their supper and they get kibble in the mornings. Sometimes I mix other things in, too. They LOVE salmon. I really like using the NV frozen raw - it has other good stuff in it and it's so convenient. Realistically, if it was cheaper I would probably feed it more often. Lots of times I use coupons for it, too. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wow. I guess I'd spend ~$45 a month if I went w/ NV. I'm homecooking now - but I don't think I'm spending anywhere near that. Do you think there is benefit from feeding it a couple times a week? I've heard, here and there, one should do either just raw -or- don't bother w/ raw at all if you're going to vary the diet w/ non-raw. Is that wrong?

| I was feeding NV - 1 medalion for AM and 1 for PM (both for Roxy and TJ). Then I went on a search to find a premade raw frozen that I felt more comfortable with. Not that I don't like NV, it's just that with all the recalls and all the garbage that the "pet food" industry puts into their products, I just have it in the back on my mind, 'do I really know what's in NV?' I found this site: www.morigins.com I spoke with my local distributor for morigins and they feed their dogs it and they love it. They told me that the woman who makes it is very pasionate and very careful. She will not 'overload' distributors because she wants to make sure her product is fresh and not sitting frozen for long, long periods of time. Anyway, I spoke with the maker as well. She will answer any questions for you at any time. I buy a 2.5 lbs 'log' of it, it has to defrost a little bit so that you can cut it up and put into smaller freezer bags. I can get 48 pieces out of that log. I cut the pieces to mimick the NV medalions, and I weigh the pieces too. Roxy and TJ get approx. 2% of their weight a day. I still split it 1 AM and 1 PM. They LOVE it. I feed it almost frozen. I take the baggie out of the freezer and let it sit on the granite counter top for about 5 minutes, then I slice it up into tiny pieces, this way the have to chew up the frozen bit and it cleans their teeth too! For me a 2.5 lb log (cut into 48 pieces) costs me $10.75 - It lasts 12 days for 2 dogs. So, 1 month costs me approx. $27 to feed 2 dogs daily. |

| Good question. When I spoke with Laurie at morigins last month, and I explained how I was using NV, she told me that she doesn't know too much about NV, but among other things that we spoke about, that the morigins does have the 17% fat content. I did tell her that NV was much lower, but she explained to me that as longer as I feed them the correct amount according to their weight all is good. She told that she has lots of Yorkie customers. I felt confident in her product. I have been feeding them morigins for the past month, and nothing unusal to speak of. I did e-mail Laurie today asking her again about the fat and that since she told me she had other Yorkie customers, that maybe she could give them my info to contact me so that I can talk further about it. I thought that high fat content was 'bad' in a cooked or process form. I thought raw fat was ok and that it can easily be digested, but raw form? I will be doing some more research into this and I will let you know what I find. But, other than that, I am quite pleased with the morigins and Roxy and TJ just love it! |
