| Help, Hunters vet visit Took Hunter to the vet today because he still has loose stools but their is no blood in it like there has been. Anyway I took in a stool sample and he ran tests. Hunter has Coccidiosis and Giardia plus ear mites. I have only had him for 2 weeks and he is 9 weeks old. Should I e-mail the breeder I got him from and let her know so she can check her other dogs? |

| Yes, definately. When I got my shih poo he had an eye infection. I called the people and they were less than interested.

| I think the breeder should cover the Vet. cost for selling you a sick puppy. Those are some really bad infections that are also life threatening. I hope your baby pulls thru all this. It's going to be a very long struggle. |

| Do you think the breeder knew he was sick and sold him anyway. He has had loose stools since I got him so would think he had them while she had him. Also was scratching his ears once in a while when I got him. So he had ear mites then also. Is that a possibility? |

| Most likely your baby was sick when you picked him up from the breeder...The breeder should help at least cover some of your vet bills, or possibly refund you some of the cost of your baby to help cover his medical expenses! Good Luck, I hope all goes well for you and your baby!

| Hunter is one sick puppy, and of course you should tell your breeder whats wrong, it may help to get it in writing from your vet for proof. Keep all your receipts because the breeder should help you with those bills, if they'er a responsible breeder they will cover all cost. He was most likely sick when you got him, but did you have a vet check him when you brought him home? If not, that might be a slight problem, I think they generally recommend vet checks within so many days. Wish your baby well, he's in my thoughts and prayers.

| When I got Hunter he was 7 weeks old. I took him to the vet when he turned 8 weeks to get his shots. I had told the vet that he has had loose stools but she said probably from going to new home and stress. I had also told her that he stopped eating as much as when I first got him. She said just leave the dry kibbles down and he would eat when he got hungry and that he could go for 7 days without eating and be fine (Yeah Right). I wasn't impressed by the whole experience at vet's. Decided I wasn't going back to that vet again. Hunter still had bloody stools next couple days so I took him to another vet today and brought a stool sample. Their are a couple Yorkie breeders that take their dogs to him so he has experience with Yorkies. How would I go about seeing if she would help pay some of the Vet bills ? When I e-mail her to tell her about Hunter should I say something to her or see if she offers ? If I should say something to her how should I word it? |

| Prayers for little Hunter. I hope he is feeling better soon. I don't know how breeders can sleep at nite knowing their babies are sick and selling them anyway.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Poor baby !! I'd tell the breeder too but don't count on sympathy or help - with some breeders - once that puppy is sold you're on your own. |

| I sure hope little Hunter starts feeling better really soon. Coccidia is usually easily treatable. Giardia can be a real bugger to get rid of and may take more than one round of meds. Make sure you disinfect everything he has come in contact with using a 10% bleach solution (all toys, clothes & blankets, carrier and bedding should be machine washed with detergent and bleach - toys can then air dry, clean sleeping area, floors - everything you can think of). Make sure all areas are fully dry before you let him walk on them again. Giardia can cause anorexia as well, so entice him to keep eating with whatever is necessary. I would recommend starting yogurt in the morning as well (about a tsp). I use Stoneyfield Organic (either plain or vanilla, whole fat or low fat). This will help keep his tummy healthy and is just simply good for him. If you buy a brand other than Stoneyfield, make sure there are LIVE cultures in it and no artificial sweeteners of any kind!!! You might also want to seriously think about using baby wipes every time he goes potty on his bum and wipe his feet anytime he comes in from being outside as well. Good luck with your pup. Please keep us updated.

One other thing, please have your vet check and double check the medicine dosage. There has been more than one pup just on YT who was overmedicated and almost died because of it!!

| Poor baby, it hard to see them not feeling well. I would notify the breeder. If she is a decent person she will do the right thing. Do you have a contract?
