| I have just recently talked to my vet about my female pup who is 6 months old. She has 7 baby teeth that may need to be pulled. He suggested that I wait until she is 7 - 7 1/2 months old before doing anything. He said buy her some bones and hard toys to play with and see if that won't loosen up the teeth. If not then we would discuss pulling them. My quote from him was: $40 for sedation $15 per tooth I noticed tonight that several of the baby teeth are coming loose since I started letting her have the bones (only supervised though). |

| Spike goes for his surgery tomorrow, and yes, that second quote did include the neuter as well. It looks like we'll be pulling about 8 - 10 teeth now. They are just not loosening up! I will update after the surgery...! |

| I thought MY vet was high!!!!!!!! (priced, that is) I'm in the bay area, California and when Truffles was spayed last month or so, she also had 10 teeth (thats right, TEN!) pulled-that is like normal procedure to have teeth pulled at the same time as being spayed! They told me it was $10 per tooth. I paid $620 for everything and THAT was alot IMO-so your estimate is just unreasonable if ya ask me!!! Please get at least another quote!!

| That's an outrageous estimate! I don't have my papers on me now (I'm at work) but my estimate is no where near that, and Tia is scheduled for the same procedure two weeks from now. I believe her tooth extraction will be billed in 10 minute increments (I think it's $30 for every 10 minutes). Today is June 5th! Let us know how it went!

| Spike had his surgery yesterday, the estimate I got at this vet (which was the second estimate I got, after the original one of $1400), included 2 canine extractions and 6 deciduous teeth (regular baby teeth), neuter, IV, blood work, x-rays, local anesthetic, general anesthetia, medications, etc., and was $830. We ended up removing two extra teeth, for a total of 10 teeth (four canines and 6 deciduous), which meant two extra local anesthetics. (They anesthetize each quadrant of the mouth that they remove teeth from). I also had them put in a microchip, which wasn't in the original estimate, and got him some anti-worm medication. The total, including the extra work and taxes, was $829.90, so it was considerably LESS than the original estimate, since it included some new items that weren't included before. I was so happy! I am so glad I got a second opinion, even though the original vet was highly recommended, I've discovered it doesn't hurt to ask around! Spike is fine. They said the surgery went really well, no problems at all. He was a walking a bit gingerly when he first got home, but he was awake, alert, and pretty much business as usual a few hours later. This morning he was his old self, but when he jumps, he yelps a bit, so he must still be a bit sore. That didn't stop him from jumping, though! |

| Glad to hear the great news about Lil' Spike! My two babies, while adults, lost their mother yorkie from a common surgery, tooth removal, and never gained consciousness from the anesthesia. Another yorkie from the same breeder had to have a yorkie go under anesthesia and that dog too died. Whenever I hear of a yorkie needing anesthesia, it scares me something bad now. My lil' boy(6 years) may need some teeth cleaning and a few baby teeth removed and he may have to go under anesthesia as well. That thought scares me. Kudos for lil' Spike!!! Matthias |
