| Dental Hygene Question Okay, need suggestions and advice. Saturday Tiger went in for his shots and yearly checkup. His doctor was very concerned with the tarter build-up on his teeth. I got a doggie toothbrush, and doggie toothpaste (peanut butter flavor). Tiger hates the experience, and now hides when I go anywhere near the cabinet I'm storing his tooth stuff in. Any other suggestions -- we have normal bones and chews, and those don't keep up with his dental stuff. But this tooth brushing is becoming a trail, and I'm really not sure I'm doing a great job of it, lol, although I was looking for a new workout, and this qualifies. Anyway what does everyone use to help keep their doggies teeth healthy and clean?

| Petzlife oral gel is awesome!! It really helps improve the tartar problem and prevent tartar on those doggies that don't have build up yet. www.beyondspoiled.com is one place that sells it. I use it on my furkids all the time

| I just use the regular stuff you buy at Petsmart, it's got some kind of flavor in it that they love. I use a kids toothbrush, the smallest kind I can find. They don't care for the whole brushing bit, but when it's over, I let them lick the toothbrush (at that point, it just smells good to them, the paste has already been brushed away) but they don't know that. I talk it all up... "get your snacky, good dog" etc and they think licking the toothbrush is a snack! A reward! They even bite/gnaw at it with the way in the back teeth, so it's like they're brushing their own teeth a little too! Tucker looks forward to a teeth brushing. Lucy, she needs a little encouragement. But it's not a workout for me. Teresa |

| This petzlife gel toothpaste... is it runny? Can it fit on a brush? I mean, will it stay? It looks more gel than paste. I'd be interested in trying it if I could involve a toothbrush. Teresa |

| Oh, yes you have to use a toothbrush with the gel, it's very thick and yes it will stay on the brush.

| Mojo has the PetzLife gel and spray. It works well. We bought ours from Kathryn_V (beyondspoiled). We were also given a brochure (from our vet) for OraVet. It is another dental plaque prevention gel. The site is : http://www.oravet.com

| Dental Health Suggestions I had lots of trouble with tartar buildup on one of my Yorkies. I think part of the problem was that he has an overbite. My first suggestion is that you get his teeth professionally cleaned and then start using OraVet once a week. Oravet can be purchased from a vet but is cheaper online. All you do is rub this substance on top and bottom gums. It must be tasteless because my dogs do not object at all. I am also using a product called DentAcetic gel every night. This is like toothpaste and again you just rub it on their gums. Very easy!! Chewing on something hard like a soup bone is also very helpful. I use Science Diet (Hill's) tartar control dog food only as a treat and they love it. I have not had no further problem with tartar buildup. Hope I have been helpful. Jad |

| Thank you for everyones suggestions! Ya'll are great. Ocean will have his next vet checkup at the end of June, and I'm going to call and see about taking Tiger in for his teeth cleaned at that time. After that I'm going to use either Petzlife or the vet oral gel. . . Probably Petzlife; I'll get up there and check out Katherine's site. Thank you everyone!!
