| When we first got Maggie, she was on Iams. The very first week, I read the Iams Testing. I was so angry. It only took a short time to get her switched to a new food. I checked the GOOD list of food and bought, Royal Canin, Bil Jac and Innova. She loves them all. So I mixed them all together in her food bin. Gives her a variety. I also sent Merrick Dog Food an email, inquiring about their product. They sent an incredible amount of sample bags. My husband was curious on "WHAT ELSE," I had purchased for Maggie. I opened it and was shocked on so many bags of Merrick food. Here is their website. www.merrickpetcare.com Currently we are using the sample bags as training, and snack treats. Works Too.

| please do some research before dumping Iams As far as I know, Peta had something to do with this campaign against Iams. And we have all learned recently what Peta is guilty of. I do not think Peta is all that creditable any more regarding 'ethical treatment'. I am embarrassed to say that I used to donate to Peta and am VERY mad at them for how they misappropriated donations!! Has anyone checked out the Iams rebuttal to this campaign against them? PLEASE do and also check out the 1000's of puppies and kittens that were adoptable but were instead euthanized and thrown in dumpsters.

| I just thought I should add, befor someone jumps down my throat that I am in NO way supporting or defending animal testing. I am 150% against it. There are always two sides to every story. Just please be open minded enough to check out what the other side says and then decided for yourself.

| Get the Iams Facts April 02, 2005 Update: Iams statement on Daily Dental Care™ Studies Feb. 05, 2005 Update: See Iams response to University of Mississippi dental inquiry Dec. 02, 2004 Update: See Iams Response to University of Georgia and University of Kentucky Study Inquiries Nov. 19, 2004 Update: See Iams Response to Purdue University Study Inquiry Oct. 11, 2004 Update: See Iams Response to an Auburn beable study rumor An animal rights organization is making misleading allegations about feeding studies performed for The Iams Company at an external facility that we left in early 2003. These allegations not only are old, but also are highly sensationalized and laced with untruths. Here are the facts about Iams: FACT: Posing as an animal lover, an activist "undercover investigator" was hired for an Iams-funded role in the contract facility. She had responsibility for the socialization and enrichment of the dogs participating in Iams' feeding studies, and was paid to develop and implement a program to ensure that these dogs were well cared for. Rather than focusing on her assignment she captured video not of the scenes of the socialization and enrichment activities she was being paid to develop and deliver, but of dogs and cats that were housed in the same facility but not a part of Iams studies. FACT: Iams doesn't kill dogs or cats! It's against the research policy that has been in place for years. FACT: Iams does not authorize the debarking of any dogs. FACT: Iams has an industry-leading global animal studies policy that ensures the care and welfare of every dog and cat participating in our feeding studies. FACT: Iams is committed to the ultimate elimination of laboratory feeding studies as scientifically valid alternatives become available -and we are actively using, developing and seeking alternatives! FACT: Iams takes full responsibility for the destiny of each and every dog and cat participating in our feeding studies, a program established as of July, 2003. Dogs and cats are adopted into loving homes after they stop working with Iams or they retire with Iams. FACT: Iams is a company full of pet lovers who dedicate their lives to helping dogs and cats live longer, healthier lives. We see this in the more than 30 million pets worldwide who annually thrive on the innovative nutrition of The Iams Company. The came from the Iams website. I could get a link to add to this post but please go there and read what they have to say.

Further even if they now stop the practices it has been proved they used a few years ago I think it's too little too late - I don't want my dogs eating anything that a company like this produces. | ||||

| Firstly, I am not a spokesperson for Iams or Peta. I am just regurgitating information I have found. I do believe to think everything Peta or Iams have said is somewhat naive. I feed Eukanuba and Lily is flourishing on it and seems to love it. I will continue to feed it until I verifiable substantiated proof that Iams is some evil monster. Every company making food is guilty of something that would cause us alarm. I am more worried about Peta's motives than anything. Why were they so worried about Iams activities when they were, at the same time, killing ADOPTABLE animals and throwing them in dumpsters. They say one thing and do another. I don't trust them or believe them. At one time I was on a web site that had both sides of this story on one page. I am trying to find it again. With any luck I can post the link in this post. Iams did have some things wrong, but absolutely nothing as horrible as Peta claims.

| I used to feed Eukanuba and I changed because I was referred to another food...I was unaware of the controversy surrounding them till much later..BUT as Lily's mom said I believe it is good to show all sides of the story. I don't think she is saying that Iams definitely DOESN'T do animal testing..I think she is just saying look at the SOURCE of the allegations...and how they themselves have alot of controversy taking place these days as well!

| My little baby, Summer, ONLY eats Eukenuba. I've tried Innova, Nature's Balance, Nutro, Royal Canin, and even Purina and Science Diet. It was an excruciatingly expensive trying period. All she'll eat is the Euk., although she does like watermelon, strawberries, squash, potatoes and chicken breast. So, I tried giving her chicken as her main meal, given the Iams/Euk. cruelty stuff, but she started gaining weight too fast, and I felt it was in her best interests to put her back on Euk. I'm sorry if I'm supporting an even-more-evil-than-usual corporate company, but I'd rather Summer eat Euk. as opposed to nothing at all, or suffering a less-than-stellar life because she's overweight.

| Confused but stubborn I too am like Lily, I read two daily newspapers and countless magazines, etc. I have heard both sides of the story and I am not ready to switch my boys to other foods. I have tried innova, nutro, royan canin, Merricks, Chicken soup, etc and teh only things the boys really like is the eukanaba interspersed with pieces of teh natural balance roll. Until I see more, I will continue to feed Eukanaba to my boys the same way I have to all my dogs. |

| I don't mean to offend anyone at all.. but the only reason why I don't like Iams, Eukanuba, Pedigree etc.. (well iams/eukanuba specifically).. is not only because of the harsh animal testing. But because of the Ingredients that they have in their commercial products. I do agree that they are very popular brands. A lot of dogs LOVE these products only because they are full of junk and fillers, and that's why dogs love the taste so much. I only want the best for my dogs, and i've done my research. I know that a lot of companies do animal testing, but not to the extent to hurt the animals. I think some of these dog foods are like McDonalds. yea your dog will eat it and like it. But eating all that bad stuff cannot be too good for their overall health. (like the documentary "supersize me").. I think some people think that if their dog does not fall down dead after eating it it must be just fine. Feeding the better quality pet food costs around the same as feeding the cheaper filler foods as you feed less even though they cost more. if your like me, and like to know what ingredients you are feeding your animals and what not.. here's a great website.. http://www.mordanna.com/dogfood/index.php?page=identify This girl is the nicest and most knowledgable person i know. |
